Really wish there was a way to get Ryan Phillippe back for this, he'd probably do it and he was the main character/a big part of what made the original movie work, even more so than Reese imo. It'll be strange seeing a recasted Annette along with SMG.

I would like if they find a way to put him in flashbacks at least.
As for Reese, idc so much for Annette and I don't think she's so interesting, but of course it will be a bit strange to see another actress portray the character at the beginning. When the series was announced, my fear was of SMG not return as Kathryn and they do a recast, cause honestly I can't think of any other actress as Kathryn.
SMG is the soul of Cruel Intentions and imo, if she weren't back this would possibily be a disaster.

Taylor John Smith talked to Variety about his new film, Wolves, and said some things about Cruel Intentions.

You are starring in the “Cruel Intentions” pilot. What can you tell us about the project?

It just wrapped in San Francisco. It’s a super iconic role, and I felt gratefulness to be able to audition in the first place and to get a chance to work with the original writer and director [Roger Kumble]. It was cool to be in this world of prestige and power. I don’t really have a connection to that kind of flashy lifestyle.

How does the show relate to the movie?

The story is connected to the original. It’s a true sequel. It’s very much the same Kathryn Merteuil [Gellar’s character], except she’s even more stunning, more edgy, more power hungry, and more ruthless.

We really got to push the limits, even more than the original. I hope that NBC is willing to go there. It’s edgy and over-the-top type stuff. It’s a roller coaster.

Sarah Michelle was interviewed by ET Online and said some things about the series:
"It's 17 years later and we didn't tell the story until we had a great story to tell. I think we have something really unique and really different."

The 39-year-old actress added that the series will be "better, badder... can you say b**cher?"

I really can't wait for this. Anyone knows how long it takes to get the approval? I guess that now it is on the editing room, right?

'Cruel Intentions' TV Show News: Lead Actor Reveals New Secrets, Including 'Prestige Of Power'

The leading man of the Cruel Intentions TV show gave some new insight on what fans can expect.

On Sunday, Entertainment Weekly got some scoop from Taylor John Smith, who plays Bash-- the son of Sebastian and Annette from the film-- who finds out that there's much more about his family's heritage than he knew. While his mother raised him to be a proper gentleman in Kansas, little does Bash know that he comes from a family made of money who will do whatever it takes to rise in power.

"He's thrown into this world where it's like this prestige of power, an empire of like-- desire, I guess you could say," Smith explained.

This leaves Bash with the choice of what kind of man he wants to become.

"He's at a point in his life where he has to either be the man his mom always wanted him to or turn out to be exactly like his father," the actor said.

Bash will make these shocking discoveries upon finding his father's journal, which has all the burning secrets.

"Bash had no idea about that life until he finds the journal," Smith said. "And so when he finds the journal, that's like him watching the movie."

As it turns out, Smith didn't actually see the 1999 film until he landed the part.

"Before I auditioned, I didn't watch the movie because I didn't want that to affect how I interpreted it," he said. "I watched it like six times after. It was like, 'Time to do my homework!'"

The series is expected to premiere this fall on NBC. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Kathryn in the film, will be reprising her role in the TV show.

Where is the "Bash Casey" name coming from? Mainly the Casey (If he's Annette's son I highly doubt she married someone right before she gave birth) so he'd be either Hargrove or Valmont; but also, what kind of a name is "Bash"?

Well, she married a guy after the end of the film, so her son (even that he's Sebastian's son) got the name of the guy. Probably he's Bash Casey Valmont or Hargrove. I can't remember exactly, but I guess he has one of these two names too.

Also, when can we expect a teaser/trailer?
Can't wait for the news that NBC gave greenlight for the pilot and that the cast will start to shoot episode 2.

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil. Now sober and married to a wealthy man, she works for a youth rehabilitation programme after putting the scandal of her youth behind her. Her life is disrupted however after the arrival of her nephew Bash.

Taylor John Smith as Bash Casey. Son of Sebastian and Annette who was previously unaware of his father's wild history.

Peter Gallagher as Edward Valmont. The billionaire father to the late Sebastian Valmont. After confirming that Bash is his truly his grandson he wastes no time welcoming him into a world of wealth and business.

Coby Bell as Pascall Barrett. Husband to Kathryn and a top lawyer who plots with his wife to manipulate Bash.

Samantha Logan as Cassidy. Kathryn's step-daughter.

Sophina Brown as Naomi. Pascal's ex-wife and Cassidy's mother who is an aspiring congresswoman.

Nathalie Kelley as Carmen. Kathryn's chief of staff.

Kate Levering as Annette Hargrove. Mother to Bash who shares a history with Kathryn.

I don't believe that Kathryn is sober, she still uses a crucifix necklace, I'm almost sure that she's still a cokehead (and that's how I, and all other fans, want to see her).
Unless she's really sober but becomes addicted another time, as her life will be shaken with Bash's arrival.

During NBC’s upfront press call today, NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt confirmed that the network is keeping its pilot Cruel Intentions alive. The project, a sequel to the cult movie which has original star Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her role, was not picked up to series, but not passed on either.

“It goes under the heading of embarrassment of riches,” Greenblatt said. “There’s just so many shows that we have scheduled or ordered.”

Greenblatt called the soapy Cruel Intentions “a bit of an outlier for us, because there’s no other show like it in our list of genres.”

That statement was interesting as one of NBC’s goals going into the 2015-16 development season was to add a primetime soap — genre that is not on the network right now — to its lineup. NBC ordered two such pilots, Cruel Intentions and legal soap Miranda’s Rights, which is dead.

Still, “we like it, and we’re still discussing it and trying to figure it out,” Greenblatt said of Cruel Intentions, which comes from Sony TV, the studio that produces NBC’s The Blacklist and the upcoming spinoff as well as hot new time-travel drama Timeless.

As we reported, among the possible scenarios discussed for Cruel Intentions are a summer order at a lower licensee fee or redevelopment. The latter is hard to imagine as it may be difficult to secure Gellar again, and she is a main draw to the sequel.

Seems like if it's a Summer show we may loose Geller or she'll have less of a presence as was planned when this was a Fall show.

Oh, they can't loose her (and I don't see why this would happen), she's the main reason I want so badly to see this.
Also she's the main villain, so she needs to have A LOT of presence in the show

Not sure why but the article said it will be harder to get Geller if this becomes a Summer show. Guessing scheduling conflicts/family time etc.
