I am a little surprised by the total lack of Special Features on this one.. Umbrella usually give us something, even if it's minor.. might have to wait a little while and see what other studios might pick the title up.

Holy crap! This disc is region free? I was totally expecting it to be B locked considering it's a 20th Century Fox title. Hmm, maybe "Enemy Mine" will end up being region free too then.

Twilight Time has US rights, so unless someone else releases it in Germany or the UK, the only other option is likely to be quite a lot pricier.

They are definitely misunderstanding. I saw it theatrically, and have owned it on every format since. This is the first time there have been no subs for the Newcomer language. And it's not as though the subs are just chit-chat, there is actual plot-relevant info there.

The subs are also on the UK DVD but they don't automatically come on.

Saved myself a few £££ now thanks to the people on here. I'll wait for the Twilight Time version

As I mentioned in the Umbrella Night of the Creeps thread, there is a similar issue with that blu wherein the alien dialogue at the start does not have subtitles where it should.
You can switch subs on with your remote to get the subtitling - can this not be done with Alien Nation? Obviously it's more of a problem with AN than NOTC as that one is just a few lines at the beginning....

Unfortunately no. There isn't a subtitle stream of any kind on the disc.

Sounds to me like Umbrella didn't want to pay licensing fees for the subtitles on this release.

glad they are looking into it

I've got Enemy Mine on order with them at the mo. Were there any burnt in subtitles for that film. I haven't seen it in such a long time i can't remember.

**EDIT** just checked the listing and it does say on Umbrellas website that it includes English subtitles. I presume this this is just a port of the TT disc

I emailed Umbrella again asking how the updated disc was coming.

So it's probably safe to say don't buy this disc until Umbrella announces that fixed version.

I watched the blu yesterday and I think that, unless you've never seen the film before, the missing alien subs are not a big issue. There are only really two scenes (for a total of probably less than 2 minutes) that have extended alien dialogue. If there is a replacement program in the future and it is run like the X-Files replacements (send them proof of purchase and they send the new disc without needing a return on the old) I would go for it. Otherwise I don't think I'd bother.
If adding this to your collection is not a pressing concern, I would just wait to see if there is a reissue.

I've been emailing Umbrella back and forth this past week. They haven't announced anything yet, but judging by the way they're talking in their emails it sounds like they are going to have a replacement program, but they just don't have the nuts and bolts worked out quite yet.

That sounds great, here's hoping they do fix this. I was just away to order it a couple of weeks ago but held off after hearing about the subtitle issue.

Haven't heard anything, so I doubt there'll be a fix yet. Hopefully if/when they do sort it out, there'll be some sort of disc replacement program. I ended up ordering it a few days ago as I got it for a good price and I figured the subtitle issue wasn't a huge deal if it will be fixed down the line .

Did this ever get fixed/recalled/whatever?

I've emailed them a few times since my last post, every time I get the same answer: 'We'll email you when a corrected version becomes available.' So it sounds like they still intend to fix it, but it's not a huge priority ATM (which is super annoying ).

Bad news everybody! I contacted Umbrella again and not only have they not fixed the subtitle issue yet, but they have in fact regressed! Now going back to standing by the straight up false claim that the film never had subs for the alien dialog in the first place.

The two brief unsubbed scenes are:

- Harcourt talks to his aid after the gala
- Francisco talks to the alien physician in the morgue
