Any Wes Andersen film ... seems like I'm the only person alive that doesn't love his sensibilities. Also ... I have not seen any avengers film .... I'm super heroed out.

Oh, and I've not seen any of the Fast and Furious films.
I'm with you on E.T. -- it hasn't held up well. And in general I'm not a Spielberg fan. Some of his movies, though, are absolutely brilliant, like Schindler's List, Munich, and ... Jaws. I was 7 or 8 when I saw Jaws in the theater. Man ... that movie. Freakin' brilliant!

No, you're not the only one. I can't get into Wes' films either. Though I have promised myself to give him another chance sometime this year. Because it seems like the sort of stuff that would really appeal to me. But ... I just don't know.

I don't watch foreign films as I hate reading subtitles and there are usually no Americans in them.

I hate arty farty films whose main purpose is to try and make you think. I only want to be entertained....if I want to think, I'll go back and finish High School.

I don't watch snuff films as I hate films where you know right from the start how they will end.

We're going to have to agree to disagree. I really disliked the film. There are great WWII films. I just don't think this is one of them.

Um, do you know what "snuff films" are?

Oh, well, picking up sarcasm on the 'net can be tough. And after his first two points, I was debating.

Amen to that; its one reason why I've often found myself in so much trouble.

fair enough. Name 5 war films that you think are great.

Ones that come to mind for me are PATTON, THE THIN RED LINE, A BRIDGE TOO FAR (most underrated war film ever imo), SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, and
APOCALYPSE NOW...

Yes because the power of thought is a terrible thing. I'm actually the opposite I don't just want to be entertained, I want to think about what I've just seen for the next few days, even weeks.

Agreed. "The more the merrier." Which, to me, means the more it makes me think, conceptualize, try and create connections, the better. Does this mean that I don't like utterly stupid, funny movies? Of course not. I do. But it also means that I would rather watch something like Persona than your average blockbuster.

But a look at my collection will show that I enjoy the average blockbuster too. I mean, I own all the X-Men movies (except for Origins), the Resident Evil boxset, the Underworld boxset, etc. It doesn't mean that those movies aren't fun. They are.

Give me a movie like Phoenix though, and that's where I am at.

I used to be all about "fun and nothing else" with movies...but once I realized every story has a message, I became more selective with my choices. There's some films which have excellent effects, but don't really seem to matter beyond the surface. I also get tired of multiple films tackling the same idea, and being too similar with it.

All of that said, some of my favorite movies are those which just lift my spirits and make me laugh, without any crassness built in. That's why I love both Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, plus many of Disney's older animation. I grew up around the time Beauty and the Beast was made, but still enjoy classics like Alice in Wonderland or Peter Pan.

Agree with both of these (well, apart from foreign films not having American actors as a reason for not watching them). Unfortunately I can't always avoid it because the university I go to for some reason likes to include them in the screenings.

I've never seen any of the Saw movies, because watching torture isn't my thing.

Funnily enough, I own and love several early 1980s slasher films, because I enjoy the suspense buildup, I enjoy the makeup gore effects, and such. In those films, though, people are generally killed right away, and not tortured.

I have no problem with gore or violence, but depictions of sadism bother me. From what I've read about the Saw movies, the element of sadism is strong with them. A Nightmare on Elm Street and its sequels are probably the closest that I get to sadism, because Freddy tends to toy with his victims a lot before killing them. There's a difference, though.

Can understand why people don't like Saw. The gore is thick in it,the killer after Jig saw will say Sadist fits him. Myself I like the franchise. The 80's were a great time for horror they had a nice blend of humor with the horror you know the campiness of it.

Instead of a movie, I'll list the whole genre - musicals. I've tried (yes, yes, even with Rocky Horror...), and it didn't work. Just don't like them, so I'm avoiding them like a plague.

Forrest Gump. The summer it came out I was stuck in a pretty isolated location for several weeks and when I came back home for some reason it just seemed so odd to me that everybody was buzzing about this movie. After several years of avoiding it, it just kind of became a point of pride to me that I've never seen it.

The Godfather trilogy - whilst mafia stuff intrigues me I just know I couldn't watch them fully, I've seen parts. I recently purchased Goodfellas though, so maybe if I enjoy that I may be motivated to watch the Godfather trilogy.

The Hunger Games - Battle Royale is one amazing film, but I have no interest in seeing a hyped Hollywood copy.

All the Mad Max films - The whole style of the films just turns me off. I haven't seen Fury Road because I don't like Tom Hardy.
