I agree. Even if in the form of "deleted scenes" would be great, but I'm not counting on it.

It was about 45mins added for TV broadcast, IIRC.

This is definitely a release I can get behind! Even if it has a noticeable lack of features, the movies themselves are worth the price.

If the transfers are the same as the French blu-rays I don't think anyone is going to be disappointed. They are definitely worth the upgrade and look fantastic for the most part. The exception being Airport '79, but is still a noticeable improvement. The process shots (f/x) contain a lot of grain and there is some blurriness to the overall film. It definitely looks better than the DVD with richer, stable color and some scenes show an increase level in detail.

Now, if Universal would only give us the JAWS sequels on blu, I'd be one happy camper!

And to think I almost bought Airport over the weekend at HPB. Glad I spent my money on old D&D stuff instead. I will definitely be adding this collection to my library ASAP and then get down with a day of olde timey disaster films: Earthquake, Avalance, Toweing Inferno, Poseidon Adventure and these four on or about June 15th. Sweet!

The extended cut of Airport 77 adds nearly an hour in, so it could be run as a 4-hour miniseries with commercials. I taped it off TBS years ago. There are lots of deleted scenes reinserted and also LENGHTY flashback sequences for lots of the characters, who sit in the wrecked plane at the bottom of the ocean and think back to their lives before the crash, I remember a long gauzy interlude between the blind piano player and Kathleen Quinlan, showing them dating, etc.

Strangely she's not in some versions of AIRPORT '79. She definitely wasn't in the syndicated version I saw and taped off TV as a kid. I don't believe she's in the cut on DVD either, though I've only watched it once. I think I've only seen her scenes on YouTube, oddly.

“Please Miss, don't misconscrrrrew me, this is my seeing eye dog”

Classic! It really is nearly as good an (unintentional) parody of disaster movies as Airplane!

Typical

I knew this was going to happen. I gave in and picked up the French discs in December, thinking a US release was unlikely, and now they announce a nice 4-film set.

Will they be remastered or use the same transfers as the French ?

I watched The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure awhile back. I loved them! Definitely need to buy more disaster films.

Check out Earthquake and Skyjacked - can't go wrong with some 70's Charlton Heston.

Charo is definitely in the DVD and bluray versions of '79. She tries to board the Concorde at Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris w/her pooch.

Her scene was cut for the ABC network broadcast where they filmed over 30 minutes of additional footage in 1981 and inserted into the theatrical cut. Mostly extra character development regarding espionage, scenes w/Blakely and Wagner (where she reveals she's pregnant), Patroni, his wife and son eating breakfast, Patroni visiting his dying wife in the hospital, etc. But the final flight/crash, escape and rescue once the plane makes a crash landing in the French Alps is extended, with a much better ending to the fate of Wagner's character.

that appears to be the "list" price or MSRP.... the set will most likely go anywhere from $20 to $25 with normal discounting which makes this a real bargain

I wonder if each movie would be on its own disc or case?
