It's not, it's more dramatic than CW, and can be just as adult as ABC, just done in a less serious way.

I always affiliated Cloak and Dagger as X-Men characters. Is this part of the deal Fox and Marvel worked out?
I did a quick read up on C&D because I didn't know much about them. They were experimented on when a drug cartel wanted to make their own heroin and tested it on teen runaways, all the test subjects died except Cloak and Dagger, they developed superpowers instead. That's the common backstory, but there's also another part that says they were actually mutants and the drugs just activated their powers so it just depends on the comic arc you want to do with. Even if they are mutants, they won't be mutants on the show. Daisy/Quake is a mutant in the comics but with Disney, she's an Inhuman. So I'm sure the Disney version will just make it where they are NOT mutants and experimenting is how they got their powers like MCU Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, as DisneyBlu said.

IIRC they were originally experimented on and turned into superhumans (like the MCU's Wanda and Pietro) and it was later retconned they were mutants, so I guess Marvel retained rights of the characters despite their status as mutants.

Thank you both! Sounds like this is a pure Marvel Studios/ABC production. It would be cool if Daisy or Coulson cameoed in an episode, trying to recruit or Index Cloak and Dagger. Looking forward to checking it out when it airs. The expansion to other networks gives me hope that those old, old rumors about a Kamala Khan series might still come true.

Is this part of the MCU or a stand alone series?

Yeah, I was excited for this until I got wind that it is going to be a Freeform show... I've never liked their stuff to my knowledge.

I feel this could go either way honestly. Of course with Disney/Marvel behind it, this could be one of the better shows on ABC Family....I mean Freeform.

I hope so. Even if it's just small nods like the Netflix shows to the larger world, I think that would help the show. But if they end up setting it in New Orleans, it'll be removed enough from New York that you wouldn't have to worry about asking why the Avengers or Spidey or the Defenders don't ever show up.

Huge Cloak & Dagger fan ever since I was a kid & read their first appearance in the Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-man comic series back around 1983-ish. Very edgy & tragic origin(s), and very unusual characters. The very obvious anti-drug message present in the character's origins & battles against the underworld was extremely effective - without being preachy.

So, interesting news about this series. I hope it's not too "kiddie-fied". Since it'll be on a major TV network, I can't see it being nearly as edgy as the '80's comic.

‘Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger’: Olivia Holt & Aubrey Joseph Land Title Roles In Series For Freeform

EXCLUSIVE: Marvel and Freeform have found their Cloak and Dagger for the new straight-to-series coming-of-age live-action drama based on the Marvel characters. Former Disney Channel star Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of) have landed the leads in the new drama series Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger.

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger follows the interracial romance between Tandy Bowen (Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Joseph), who come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart — but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

“The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy,” said Cloak & Dagger executive producer/showrunner Joe Pokaski. “When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page. We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.”

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, which had been in the works at Freeform’s predecessor ABC Family for about five years, is a co-production of Marvel Studios and ABC Signature Studios. It joins two Marvel series for ABC: series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the upcoming The Inhumans.

“Marvel is delighted to have found our “Cloak & Dagger,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer. “Olivia Holt and Aubrey Josepn encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles.”

Here is more info on the two characters:

Tandy* (Oliva Holt – “Dagger”) Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.

Tyrone (Aubrey Joesph – “Cloak”) * Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes Forever.

Looks like this series won't be debuting until Winter 2018, according to Screenrant:

I have no problem with this. I have so many series I want to see (that I haven't had time to watch), that if C & D came out now I wouldn't be able to see it until some time next year anyway.

I'm in no rush for this to come out. I'm interested for sure but I have Defenders, and Punisher to look forward to this year. I also need to catch up to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Legion so yeah... no rush.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been so damn good this season.

Only know about Cloak & Dagger from random issues including stories from Marvel Comics Presents. Oh, the Dabney Coleman movie too but that's something completely different.

Winter 2018 makes it seem like end of 2018 but it'll probably end up being February since that's winter lol

Watched the trailer but if Freeform is expecting this trailer to pique anyone's interest, it failed. It was a lousy trailer ... I was kind of expecting a little more flash. It was just a bit of a letdown for me. It felt like I was watching a trailer to a sequel of Eight Mile.
