Unless you count Laura or Leave her to Heaven as a genre pic, I guess!
Ian Hendry's final line in the movie is absolutely delicious.

I love them both. Phibes is more "arty" than Theatre and perhaps more laidback and strange too. I agree that these two, Masque and Pit are his best though.

I absolutely love this film. I think that this film is one of the best horror/comedies of all time. Shame about the US not having as many special features as Arrow's edition. My mum came back from the UK a few weeks ago, and she got me Arrow's standard edition, even though I already had the Steelbook. I gave that copy to my friend, and he thought the film was great, too.

Better TT than SF. Better compression pretty much guaranteed.

After first seeing Theater of Blood a few years ago, I checked out the Phibes movies after hearing they were similar. You're right, they are definitely more "arty." They were good but I didn't find them nearly as "fun" as Theater of Blood, which is just a totally crazy good time.

The Masque of the Red Death was another one that was more arty and cerebral than I was expecting. Had a hard time trying to get into it that one and it never quite clicked with me. I loved The Pit and the Pendulum, though. That was really good.

The Masque of the Red Death was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. My mom had the VHS. As an adult I love it even more because it makes me think of Edgar Allan Poe crossed with Ingmar Bergman.

If you are region free, import the Arrow version of Theatre of Blood. The release is more stacked than a porn star!

But scream factory would have at least put in some kind of effort into bonus features.

Nice that this is being made available for those who aren't region-free. But the Arrow release is the way to go for those who have a choice.

I may have to get this eventually if I read that the Del Valle commentary track is really good, however. I always enjoy his Price-related interviews and commentaries.

Yeah, but the real appeal of a SF release would be a cardboard slip cover and a hilarious piece of original cover art that looks like it was pulled from a fan made black velvet painting.

I have indeed felt that way about a few of Scream's custom art jobs.

My (very young at the time) dad took my (very young at the time) mum on a date to see Masque of the Red Death. Its the one film they can definitely both remember seeing back in the 60s! Just makes me like the film that bit more!

I don't know when the next sale will be (& if this title will be included), but I don't think it will sell out fast. The other VP by TT (Scream and Scream again) has not been sold out yet, and I think some people are definitely waiting for the next sale.

Just make sure to follow the official TT thread for the low quantity alert. Once you see it listed in the LQA you should pull the trigger, but I don't think it will be an instant sellout.

Unless it's 80's horror, the chances of an immediate sell-out are very remote.

But look at this:

There's also a real booklet instead of the couple pagers TT includes. I mean, I'm glad TT does that, but the Arrow one is pretty long.

FYI, that commentary is one of my favorites. Those guys are always fantastic to listen to (they also have a track on Blood on Satan's Claw, and I think at least one other disc I have, and Mark Gatiss has hosted some wonderful horror docs recently for the BBC). Unless the TT has a different transfer, this should be a no-brainer.

The cover is cooler, though.
This is only $10.30 USD currently during Arrow's Sale too. No idea why more people aren't multi-region capable. More options to choose from, but yes it's still best to wait for reasonable prices.
I'd rather get the Arrow release amongst the other Vincent Price movies they have.

I haven't bothered with any of their Vincent Price discs apart from "Tales of Terror," since those two Shout Factory sets were essential and I have a hard time buying two editions of movies unless they're one of my favorites. I may pick up Pit and the Pendulum and maybe Haunted Palace at some point since their extras are the most interesting. If they had a compilation of all the Vincent Price extras on a disc with no movie I'd totally buy that instead, though

For me it's only worth it to own two or more editions of a film from various companies if they very substantial and worth owning. Obviously the majority of the time which edition I buy first is always the most affordable one at any given time out of the choices. Seems more "complete".
This one doesn't.

I'd hardly call that a VP movie though.
