Interesting. I'd say It's Only the End of the World is up there too.

I've been seeing a lot of stuff about The Handmaiden. I was a really big fan of Stoker, so I'm definitely curios to see what Park Chan-wook is up to now.

Either way, the assumption that anyone who prefers obscure, well-crafted, intelligent, foreign or independent films over mainstream, mass-marketed summer blockbusters is "pretentious" is commonplace on this forum.

Eh, only a little.

Blue Is the Warmest Colour
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
The Wind That Shakes the Barley
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

Nothing against the movies themselves or the people that watch them (hell, I'm one of them), but the titles very clearly announce themselves as "SERIOUS FILMS."

Is Stoker the only film of his you've seen? What about Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, or Thirst?

Yeah, Stoker is the only thing I've seen. And I'm not a fan of Allen. Besides Annie Hall, the films I've seen, I haven't liked.

Wasn't a fan of Midnight in Paris. Last film of his I have seen & enjoyed is Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Have you seen Manhattan or Hannah and Her Sisters? I think you'd like those. Broadway Danny Rose is a little... quirkier but I like it more than those. And I loved Midnight in Paris but VCB is also one of his better pictures. So is Match Point.

I'm a huge fan of 70's and 80's Woody Allen. Annie Hall, Manhattan, Interiors, Hannah and Her Sisters etc etc are all masterpieces imo. He certainly is not what he used to be but there's still Blue Jasmine, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Match Point that are really good films.

I liked Blue Jasmine, but that had almost everything to do with Cate Blanchett.

So many great films in competition.

It was very well written film. Sally Hawkins was also great. Obviously Blanchet steals the show but that happens in every film she's in.

Surprised he's even there, considering his mediaphobia.

Trailer for Cafe Society just played. Looks a bit dull to be honest. Great cast though. The costuming and set design are very good for a 30's piece, but just based on that trailer alone, Steve Carrell doesn't seem to fit the time period at all.
