There should be a time lock on new members before they can create a thread. Posting in others are fine, but creating spam posts based on rumors, that of which were only based on the PS4 Neo, not the Xbox One, would not be as commonplace as they are now creating spam and clutter. Just wait until E3, as since French retailers say the PS4 Neo will street September, they no doubt will formally announce it at E3.

I agree. Although I have no doubt something will be announced at E3, the start of this thread is entirely pointless.

Rumors are quite common in the UHD thread.

I'd like a cite too. I've been posting cites of official papers stating the PS4 and XB1 launch consoles are UHD capable and the drive only needs a firmware update. It would be great if this finally gets accepted and the mis-information stops.

PS3 and XB1 are UHD Capable (page 1).

UHD Capable means:
HEVC, HDMI 2, Trusted boot and TEE for UHD DRM
Full HTML5 browser with W3C extensions
Add Playready porting kit 3 and WMDRM and you can support Vidipath and 4K streaming from the cloud. The Intellectual notice on the PS4 has Playready and WMDRM.

They are capable but ultimately pointless.
Technically their HDMI 1.4 ports can do UHD but it's limited to pictures and some video.
In theory the drive can get a new firmware to play new UHD BluRay discs but so far I don't think any drives have been upgraded to UHD via firmware.
UHD BluRay and some streaming services require HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 both of which aren't present in the PS4/XB1.
Nor can either console upscale games to UHD and even if they did it would be limited to 30Hz, which is terrible for gaming.
As for H.265 technically it's possible but it would all be software side since neither system has hardware decoding.

The PDF you linked doesn't mention UHD facts about the consoles, only the energy efficiency.

Default Judging Xbox One as 4k Blu Ray Player

I'd be pissed, as I just got a white Xbox one, GOW edition!

Default They're Coming

I'm not sure what the rumpus is regarding new XB1 and PS4 models. They'll be announced on June 13th, and present owners may choose to upgrade or sit this rev out. The business model has changed for consoles and most likely we'll see new and incrementally improved models on an annual basis: http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/25/11...scorpio-rumors

And that's not all: http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/25/11...devices-rumors

I'm not sure what you mean by 'business model,' but from a consumer perspective, consoles will be refreshed much more rapidly than the historical model. So, noting the post above, where once you would buy a newly released console and not anticipate a HW-based upgrade for a number of years, you may now expect HW-based upgrades in an accelerated fashion. Furthermore, manufacturers will seek to monetize services, independent of game titles, to a greater extent than the historical focus of hardware.

The Xbox One can play 4K blu-rays I know that much, but that is the only thing in 4K it can show since games aren't there yet.
And I made sure to confirm that by talking to someone at the Microsoft store and then later talking to Xbox customer service over the phone before I went out and bought my 4K TV.

I haven't even tried putting a UHD disc in my Xbox. Prove me wrong (please) but I can't imagine it ending well if I did.

The Xbox One can the only problem with the XB1 and 4K Blu-rays is that the output will be in 1080p. So you're better off just waiting for the next update or just buying regular Blu-rays. But yes it can play 4K Blu-rays

Did the rumors talk about magical fairies and free 4k content for all owners?

I'm all for having fun with speculation but you wrote the title as fact, when it wasn't and you even changed the rumor to make it coming this year.

If you want to talk about the 4k player in the new PS4, by all means.

The Xbox 1.5, which you are referring to after watching on your rumor youtube channel, is happening, but not for another long year.

Really????
Then you discovered the first standard Blu-Ray player that reads Ultra 4k movies.

I'm heading to Best Buy now to purchase all the titles they have!
Who knew I had a 4k blu-ray player that has been sitting under my TV for 2 years???

I just don't have any 4K films though. I'm choosing to wait for the next XB1 update before I buy any because 4K is still an early thing plus there aren't any films I would like to see in 4K anyhow. Plus, I double checked with Microsoft and Xbox customer service before I said anything about the XB1 playing 4K Blu-rays, thats how I found out about it only outputting 1080p
