Music is a totally different medium. He can be non-committal about it because he isn't judged by the same standard.

I enjoyed those Lost Themes albums too btw.

Making a music album is different from making music for a movie. You have much more freedom and creativity when just composing music than when you have to compose for a movie, because then it has to serve the purpose of accompanying the images.

Carpenter has been screwed over too many times by Hollywood and the movie industry to give a shit about it anymore.

I would only be excited for this if it was the start of that idea Carpenter originally had to make the Halloween films an anthology of sorts.
What do you mean start? Never heard of Halloween Part 3? They tried that anthology idea, Friday the 13th was going to do the same thing.

I can't get excited for any new slasher film remake/reboot after the last few attempts. Getting Carpenter back now is not going to save it, the man is well past his prime.

Indeed. The Ward (although not a bad movie per se) proves it.

Clearly some of you didnt read the official press release its mention theres negotiations that Carpenter could do the music for the movie and even his son Cody could work on the music to! Carpenter is also a creative consultant.

From Blumhouse.com

Quote:
But we’re still not done… did we mention that Carpenter may also be composing the film’s music? Negotiations are still in progress on that, so we can’t say it’s a done deal… but it looks very promising

Carpenter has already been enjoying a major career renaissance with the cult success of his two LOST THEMES albums, which in turn sparked his first-ever tour of live performances with a full band, including his son and fellow composer Cody Carpenter (who would definitely be contributing to HALLOWEEN’s music, if the deal works out). So it looks like the stars have aligned perfectly for this project.

[Note: Carpenter recently re-recorded the HALLOWEEN theme for a new EP slated for June 17 release, along with new versions of the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, THE FOG and ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 themes.]

Yes, I've heard of Halloween 3 and watched it many times. Some advice, when it comes to film and especially the horror genre, don't waste your time trying to lecture me about it hahaha.

What I meant by start was to try again since the only two he had were the original Halloween (which was meant as a one off) and part III. Both which came out many years ago of course.

Thumbs up

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Look, either something's happening with Halloween, or it lies dormant. Something's happening. And after some terrible sequels and a divisive reboot, let's get back to basics. Let the original creator, who has sat it out for a long time, come back and give his input. Having Carpenter in a supervisory role immediately makes this more interesting than having just another entry in the works. It might be just what this ailing franchise needs.

I hope they go dark, Cloverfield-style, and say nothing else about it until the first trailer drops in late summer. Just bring it, surprise us, and let the work speak for itself.

I respect the man alot and he has made several of my favorite movies. But he also hasn't made a decent film in 20 years. He was a producer on the remake of "the fog" too and that was a total disaster.

Is Blumhouse the modern day equivalent to Full Moon Features?

I just remember back in the VHS days, if I ever saw this logo on the back cover :

I knew the movie would be sh*t. I feel the same way whenever I see Blumhouse, or BH Tilt. I just automatically know the movie is going to be really bad.

Well I'm excited. Halloween is my favourite slasher series, and one of my favourite horror series'. I definitely hope it's Michael Myers they bring back and not anthology sequels (though I like 3) - and it sounds like Myers is the plan, good. I want more slashers, and if one of those slashers is Myers, that's only better.

No, I don't think Carpenter is the only one who can do justice to Halloween, but his involvement is great! The Halloween title belongs to Michael Myers at this point, there are plenty of other movies that have done different types of Halloween stories, and future ones can happen under a different title.

Can't wait for more updates!

Agreed, sadly it seems it's already too late as there's so much senseless whining going on here. Have to say I'm a bit shocked by all this negativity and the BS here claiming Carpenter is only in it for the money. Such hogwash! Comments like him being "past his prime" is despicable. As if one's age somehow correlates to creativity. Spielberg is a completely different type of director/producer and yet is just 2 years older than Carpenter and one could argue Spielberg only cares about a paycheck given his continued attachment as executive producer on those terrible "Transformers" sequels. That's a prime example of someone cashing in but yet he's still Steven Spielberg and the guy is tremendously talented and deserves the respect he's earned. Would those hating on Carpenter in this thread also say that Spielberg is also "past his prime?" I digress. But this goes even deeper into a conversation though when you look at Hollywood itself. The films people like Spielberg or Del Toro want to be making just aren't being given the funding. "Lincoln" if you recall almost ended up as an HBO premiere but only made it to theaters because Spielberg co-owns his own studio. If not for that, the film would never have made it to theaters. Carpenter doesn't have that luxury, but I'd argue the guy equally has earned his place to be respected and not tossed into a folder of those who did indeed go on to become sellouts. He's still a master of his craft and both "Lost Themes" albums represent a reinvigorated Carpenter. I couldn't be happier about that and for him. Hopefully more people will be just a tad bit more respectful of the man and his continued presence in the world of entertainment and among the "Halloween" franchise he created.

i love halloween but give it a rest already. its been almost 10 years since zombieween (i actually cant believe that) - so i wont be surprised if this is actually a reboot to make it more like the original series. and if it bombs there is potential for a teeny booper tv series (mtv scream)

This ain't your daddies JC. It's a paycheck at this point for JC.....love the guy but he lost the mojo long ago. It will be better than Zombie's films but he already did it right the first time. Would rather see something new without Myers but at this point I don't think JC has the energy for anything new.

This project BELONGS to David Robert Mitchel or Adam Wingard. If they aren't directing I'll be less excited. I feel they could really deliver a great Halloween film. And with Carpenter producing it would be in great hands.

Was just having that conversation last night about David Robert Mitchell directing the project, really excited about that possibility. Fingers crossed. Adam Wingard would be an interesting choice, I'm sure word will begin to go out as they develop the film and put the pieces in place over the summer.

Who cares about this, seriously. Carpenter executive producing an umpteenth sequel to a franchise long sapped of its creative juices is about as exciting as Rob Zombie directing another one: it's not.

Now if Carpenter was on board with another movie using the best holiday of the year as its focal point a la Season of the Witch, then you could color me interested.

But this? No thanks.

Those are both great choices but if Blumhouse wants this out by next year, they won't be able to do it. DRM is working on Under the Silver Lake and Wingard has the Death Note remake.

This could be good. I loved Hush and Oculus was pretty good.

IMO, Carpenter has earned the right to do whatever he wants. If he wants to just sit back and get the paycheck, that's fine by me. If he wants to get more involved and pitch story ideas and whatnot, even better.

Halloween is my favorite franchise and just the thought of Michael Myers roaming around killing people in a new movie gets me excited. Add in a potential Carpenter score? Excuse me, I'll be in my bunk.
