That's the name of the game. Win as many medals as possible.

Jordan Spieth confirmed today that he won't be playing in the Olympics. That means the top 4 golfers in the world and 6 of the top 10 have all declined to play in the Olympics. The US will be represented by Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed, and Matt Kuchar.

While golf is already in the Olympics for 2020 it's future after that is uncertain. The IOC is voting next year about what sports will be in the 2024 Olympics and the IOC surely isn't happy about all the high profile absences. Maybe the IOC will think the absences are largely due to Zika/security fears and that in the future top golfers will play when that isn't an issue, but the truth is a lot of golfers don't want to interrupt their season for the Olympics.

Russia avoided a total ban from the Olympics, but each athlete will have to prove they have not used (basically show a history of clean drug tests from non Russian labs) in order to complete. Track and field has been completely banned, however.

Pretty lenient decision by the IOC.

Not really. They're still presuming guilt from everyone. They are just giving individuals a means to clear their name.

Any past PED use, including use you have already been sanctioned for, disqualifies Russian athletes.

Anything outside of banning Russia completely is very, very lenient. The Russians see this decision as a big win.

Well, for better or for worse, here we are...the Olympics start today.

6 Women's Football(Soccer) games on the slate, starting at noon eastern.

Canada plays at 2 pm and the US Women play tonight at 6 pm.

Michael Phelps was selected as the US flag bearer for the opening ceremonies. This was pretty much a no-brainer as long as Phelps wanted to participate in the opening ceremonies, which he hadn't done in any of the prior Olympics.

Anyone else find the broadcast format annoying as hell? I mean, I want to watch one sport but NBC constantly flips back and forth to others. It's enough to make me tune out and just google the results later.

Too many events and too few channels to simulcast on, I get it, but still, it's frankly annoying and in 2016 you'd think they could partner some sort of on-demand stream dedicated to each event with major carriers.

France is giving us all we can handle. I really don't like the feel of this game right now.

I've been watching the online stream for anything I really really want to watch which NBC is likely to swap away from.

I think a big problem is that several of the sports have big down-time, which I've noticed when streaming them, so NBC is trying to keep people entertained.

On-demand would be a great solution though.
