My last (and possibly last) order with them.
As others have said, its a shame they are going as I used play.com so much back in the day. That was when there were loads of deals to be found. Not so much on rakuten unfortunately.

I just ordered this as a present for my brother. I'm so tempted to get one for myself at this price. I already own the movie though...

Rakuten who?

just hope the few sellers I liked, such as FoxDirect, Entertainment Store, eOne Direct etc resurface on amazon marketplace or ebay or similar
Fox and Entertainment Store already have accounts on eBay and have had some good deals.
I'm sure most sellers on Rakuten have or will be opening accounts on eBay and Amazon.

Many now have their own websites like Zoom and even Speedyhen.

Play.com always had good prices for new release steelbooks.

I got these for £10.99 each release day!

Happy days

I wonder what will happen to wuaki.tv? If that goes it would mean another UV provider bites the dust ...

Back in October 2014, around about the time of the rebrand of Play I think, Rakuten offered a voucher where if you spent over £7, you'd get £5 off

I opened about twenty or so different e-mail accounts and put an order through each one. I got loads of Blu-rays really cheap, mainly Paramount titles. I don't know if anybody did the same as me, but it must have cost them a fortune. I probably saved well over £100. Although I had to be quick as items went out of stock real quick

Since then, I haven't used them, until now where I've ordered that 300 set

They tried to become too much like Amazon and it was doomed from the start

If you read the business news update which is linked to in the initial post in this thread they say that for now they are continuing with wuaki.tv and the kobo e-books and e-ink readers. Obviously they may change their mind on those in the future.

With regard to UV I see in the UK it has extended as always used to be only Flixster. That was extended to Blinkbox (now closed), Wuaki.tv and Google Play. It seems at least Flixster and Google Play will be around going forward.

I haven't used Rakuten that much, but it's always sad to see even more competition for Amazon leaving the market. A shame for the stores too obviously, especially where Rakuten is their primary storefront.
I've often noticed where sellers that are also on Amazon Marketplace and ebay, will be competing with different stores, so prices can often differ between their various storefronts.

You can redeem UV codes on Google Play? That's news to me. That's pretty good, as you can open up Youtube and it will be there under purchases.

It is only some UV codes, as I believe the studio issues the code has to provide the digital copy. They all seem to include Flixster which at outset was the only platform offering viewing of UV digital copies in the UK.

Some studios now include Google Play but not all, and I have seen Wakui.tv available on at least one of my UV codes.

So as I said ability to select Google Play depends upon whether the studio works with them for UV and they have relevant digital file for the film you are redeeming.

I sincerely hope not. My ereader is a Kobo, and I really don't want to have to switch to Kindle.

I thought that Kindle has something like a 95% market share for e-books in the UK, although it's hard to get official statistics. I would have thought Kobo was pretty much irrelevant here although is it still sold by WHSmiths ?
Is there anyone else who sells it in any volume in UK.

I know that Waterstones have now given up with e-books and e-ink readers whether Kindle or others.

I guess they must be relying on sales in US and elsewhere as I would have thought as a standalone UK business Kobo would not survive.

I've noticed the option when redeeming UV codes, but I usually select Flixster. If I sign-up to GooglePlay will the supported titles be in my library (if you redeem with Flixster, they'll appear with Wuaki.TV, blinkbox et cetera if the title is supported), or will I have had to redeemed them with Google?

I always choose Flixster as I can download in their app on my iPad. If I am going to watch on my TV I get out the BD.
