If you like shark movies and are one of the last remaining people on the planet to not have seen it, I would suggest Jaws as a safe buy. Superior filmmaking.
Pretty sure he/she has seen Jaws by now and likely already owns it. And this is a shark movie for a new generation that's a fun watch but people like to take it literal. I still think its quite unfair this gets compared to Jaws when it comes from the most influential director in Hollywood.

Far enough, in this case.

We don't expect much from our movies anymore, do we?

In truth, no. But I always hope for the best...

The Shallows may not be a classic, but it's a standout in the attractive, female protagonist genre...and there are those out there--they know who they are--who would feel that more than warrants a blind buy.

If they can't all be "Jaws," they can do worse than to bring Blake and her bikini to the table (or rock).

Blind pre-ordered. First 4k purchase and hopefully I have a 4k receiver and player by release date.

It's great the way it is. Just wished the sky wasn't whited out.

Don't know why they had to remove the skyline:

I was making a joke, though I truly dislike the shark in that art.

I'm aware that they want to play up the shark, but I've got to be honest, the artwork that you posted (with the sky) cropped on the sides to focus more on her and empty water would be a whole lot cooler to me than with the shark.

Perhaps a fin in the water the opposite direction of the way she's looking. To me, this looks like a bad Photoshop job for a Syfy movie.

Looking forward to the direct comparisons: If this blu looks better than the 4K in terms of detail (as with Universal's "Oblivion"), there's still time to re-title the format "HDR Blu-ray."

If the 2K up-scales continue to limp along next to their 1080p counterparts, how long before the studios start hobbling the resolution on blu-ray to provide a clearer choice?

I do think most upscales look better than their 1080p counterparts. Oblivion is worst case scenario.

UHD Blu-ray is region free, so one disc has to be "universal." In many respects, it costs the studio less money by dropping the region coding lock-outs, which was absolutely stupid in the first place.

I'm not going to import it just cause of the slipcover. Also, I despise bilingual cover arts.

You don't have to import the film as it will have a U.S. release. No bilingual cover here. Could care less about a slipcover.
