That's a great point. The jaunty, bouncy themes are really cool and fun, the organ music themes are spooky (but not too spooky) and the two mesh seamlessly throughout the film.

What other Don Knotts movies are released on Blu ? I only know of Private Eyes, which comes at a ridiculous price up here.

The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975) and Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977) from the Disney Movie Club. Although it's not a movie, there's also The Andy Griffith Show: Season 1 (1960).

I actually saw the GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN/RELUCTANT ASTRONAUT double-feature at a Saturday afternoon matinee in 1969 when I was ten.
I don't think I saw them as a double bill, but I did see both as Saturday matinees. My mother would drop my brother and I off with a buck each (for admission, popcorn, and drink) and pick us up later.

I think that was the only showing. I also saw Destroy All Monsters this way.

It seems odd that these films would just show as part of a Saturday matinee double bill, but maybe that's because we only had one screen in town and they wanted to have something else playing the rest of the week.

I remember standing in line with the other kids and watching them paper the side of the building with the billboard for the new regular feature.

These are the memories that make me realize I really am old.

This is a "US" release.

The pre-order showed up on amazon.ca first but it's a US release. All of North America is the same region and Universal releases the same discs in Canada and the US (and likely overseas as well).

This will show up for pre-order in the US shortly.

Plus, it's not Czechoslovakia, it's Canada. You zip in, you zip out. It's like ordering from Wisconsin.

Super stoked about this one. Hope we can get the other Don Knotts films, particularly "The Love God?".

Yes, there was a double-feature back in 1969. I saw it at a twin cinema in Hicksville on Long Island, and, yes, my mother did drop me off for the afternoon and picked me up afterward. She did the same with either me, or with my sister or brother, or a friend many times. I can remember going to things like SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF, ICE STATION ZEBRA, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED and many others, all by myself or with other kids. In those days you never gave much of a thought of being kidnapped or molested. Much more innocent times -- though you did know "Don't get in a car with a stranger!"

I've been searching the web to see if there was a double-feature poster for that re-issue, but I can't find it. However, Universal did do a double-feature laserdisc about twenty years or so ago:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/The-Ghost-and...YAAOxyOlhS9OPz

And yes, it does make you feel old remembering how going to the movies used to be when it wasn't a multiplex, or in a mall. The old single-screen neighborhood bijous, with their lobbies and poster displays, were nice things -- and larger "movie palace" theaters with balconies were even neater -- but it almost all went the way of the Dodo Bird over thirty years ago now.

If you were lucky enough to be a kid in those last days of old-fashioned cinema going, it can make you feel very old indeed.
