They were. Liked the first, sequel was funnier (watched it a lot on DVD) and the third was entertaining.

I used to read the books, before series went all Hollywood. Then I stopped. I've never watched any of the movies. I always just thought it was dumb to turn a book comprised of stick figures, into a run-of-the-mill, big-budget, live-action, generic kid's movie. I thought it would've been much cooler had they stuck to the stick figure animation. Keep it just like the book. Black and white, with crude stick-figure drawings. Then it would've stood out from the pack.

But no, that wouldn't have made money. (It probably would've flopped had they actually done that. But it would've been a kick-ass film.) Let's make it live action. That's proven to make money. This movie just has Hollywood studio executive meddling written all over it. Bc as long as everyone's making money, who cares about integrity? Am I right?

I was never really invested in the books or knew they actually existed till I went over to a friends house who had children and they were watching a marathon of the movies. I was actually surprised I liked them so much.

Clearly they had to recast the kids as everyone has aged too much, but that doesn't stop fans of the previous films from complaining

The studio is apparently working hard to convince them:

I know he was a "producers kid," but I thought Devon Bostick was hilarious as Rodrick.

(IMO) DOAWK Long Haul seriously looks like a huge cash grab that Fox only made for money.. the Box office will only be benefited by the many fans of the book!

All major studio movies are cash grabs.

As opposed to making it for the sake of art?

And of course a film adaptation of a book will benefit from fans of the book. That's why they adapt successful books.

I try to refrain from bashing a movie that is not even out yet. Jokes are fair game as I feel virtually everything can be lampooned.

It always amuses me when people talk about "cash grabs" as if the monetary motivation of movie studios is news. They are in business to make money- let the shock of that revelation reverberate for awhile. If they make something that turns out to be art, that is a nice bonus that they will surely capitalize on.

They would give us Adam Sandler yodeling the Yellow Pages if they thought it would sell.

I just happen to run across a trailer for this. Because of Alicia Silverstone I have to see this.
