All my DVDs I've long since given away. As for blu-rays, there's a slowly growing stack under my bed, sharing space with my HD-DVD discs. I'll eventually give them away, or sell them as a lot. No one in my immediate circle of close family/friends are into watching blu-ray movies.

If there are worthwhile extras on the old DVD/Blu-ray, I'll keep multiple copies.
If there's cool packaging or something odd about the old release, I'll keep multiple copies. For example, I have four different copies of EVIL DEAD 2. It's entirely unnecessary, and my Book of the Dead is rotting away at the spine... but they're there... just so I can post about them on the Internet I suppose. For old DVDs, I'll check to see if I can add a Disc-to-Digital copy through Vudu then toss it up on Half.com, eBay or SwapADVD... depending on it's value. Upgraded Blu-rays, generally just get put up for sale. I'm all about justifying new purchases with the value of older DVDs. If it's a spy film or somehow Bond-related (by actor, director, etc.) I'll keep the DVD stored in a storage trunk in a sleeve. I never know when I'll decide to use it for a live tweet on thejamesbondsocialmediaproject.com. |

Some movies I really don't mind owning duplicates or multiples of on the same format. Especially if they have differing bonus features. If it's the same exact disc in a set which I have individually then it's completely random.
It's a title-by-title basis. ![]() EDIT: Also it's due to how much I have a particular appreciation for the film in question. More obvious of dupliclicates/multiples in my FilmAF Owned listing which is my signature. Last edited by Ray_Rogers; 08-17-2016 at 04:52 PM. |

Depends on what it's worth and if any place or person will buy it for a price worth selling at. Some I keep cuz they are cool, some I donate to the library. I usually look to move them out though.
I'll be keeping my The Thing cuz I need something to put that second slipcover on though. ![]() ![]() I miss the 'upgrade and save' thing they used to do at Best Buy. Turn in any old dvd and get $5 off a blu. I used that to get rid of region 2 titles I have trouble selling in the States, and could just turn in disc one of a 2-disc set and keep the features disc as a companion for the BD's that did not have some or all of the features, making my own "ultimate editions". Try selling a 2-disc set missing disc 2 at any brick and mortar used outlet gets nothing but rejection. They won't even offer me pennies. Ironic they don't care about slipcovers or inserts/booklets, just discs. Last edited by bigdaddyhorse; 08-17-2016 at 06:01 PM. |

I prefer to either keep the most definitive edition, or combine editions to make it definitive.
If I upgrade one Blu-Ray to another with same (or more extras) and better picture quality, I'll either sell or donate the older release. If I get multiple Blu-Ray copies of a movie, but they have different cuts, color schemes, sound options, and extras, I'll keep both (or all) copies. Sometimes I'll combine them in one case, put the extra copy in a binder, or I'll just have them side-by-side on the shelf (for example, I have the Criterion edition of The Third Man beside the UK 4K release, I have the extended and theatrical LOTRs together, I have the Criterion Lady Snowblood in the UK Steelbook and the original Arrow disc in a binder, I have the Swedish, UK, and US discs for A Serbian Film in one case, and so on). If I upgrade from DVD to Blu-Ray, I combine the two together wherever possible into combo packs. Sometimes I'll have the single-disc Blu-Ray with a multi-disc DVD. If the case can't fit them all, I'll put the DVD copies in a binder. As said above, it's a case-by-case basis. |

I used to sell them on Amazon, but the bottom fell out of that market. None of my family or friends are interested in blu-rays, so I donate them to Purple Heart or other organizations that pick up items from our house.
In fact, my routine now is: as soon as the newer release gets good reviews that I trust, or as soon as I get the newer release and decide I like it, I dump the old release in a paper bag with old clothes, etc. that are awaiting donation. |

If I can get at least $5 for the old Blu on eBay, I will sell it (I have Blood and Black Lace, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein on there right now). If not, I will pass them along to my friends. I actually just sent a box of Blu rays (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Manchurian Candidate, etc) to a friend last month and will be giving a few (Dressed to Kill, Road House, An American Werewolf in London, Carrie, Dressed to Kill, Child's Play) to another friend soon.

Already did one for SPARTACUS: Restored Edition Blu-ray, which I also kept the slipcover. Got a stacking hub 4-Disc case, put the Criterion DVDs with each other and left the Blu-ray disc where it is. Whenever I get the single disc OST CD I'll put it underneath the Blu-ray. Of course this means buying more cases than I have and even considering making a custom compilation for KING KONG (2005). Since I'm not a fan of Steelbooks, only willing to own a few, those adhesive hub things work fine. Especially for those Blu-ray releases which are missing features from the DVDs. For THE FRIGHTENERS I'm keeping the OST CD with the UK Blu-ray disc release I have and with the USA DVD and HD DVD I'm keeping them together. But as I mentioned it's a title-by-title basis, sometimes even company too, for the compilations. Far easier when it's custom covers, too. |

I sell them on Amazon. I'm mostly into classics and cult films which tend to hold their value and those are the ones I'm most likely to double dip on. I'm not a big double dipper on Blu-ray. More extras rarely sway me, it needs to be a considerably improved transfer for me to upgrade.

For me it depends. If my older copy won't bring in anything, I may just give it away. If it will, I'll sell it. Or if I like the movie and there is a reason to have both releases ie extras or different framings, etc, I will keep both, though sometimes I will combine them into one case.
Off the top of my head, I have both the 88 films and Vinegar Syndrome releases of Graduation Day. I also have both the Arrow and Scream releases of some of the Vincent Price films. I also just picked up the Code Red release of Pit Stop to go with my Arrow one since the Pit Stop transfer is better, but both have a good selection of exclusive extras. |
