I agree. I love my S300 but I will be getting Sony's first Full Profile player that's not a PS3.

What does make me somewhat sad is that I am soon going to replace my trusty Sony BD-S1. It is a true horse as a standalone. Keeping FW current, I have never had a single issue with any BD I have fed it. I blame Sony for not being forward thinking enough to allow my beloved BD player to support all lossless audio formats.

Honestly?

My eyes.

I'm quite short-sighted, and even though contacts work fine for me, they make my eyes very tired eventually. Having served in the artillery hasn't done wonders for my hearing, either.

Everything else I can always replace. But getting it all as perfect as possible is one way of making sure the hardware defects on my end are minimised.

No complaints about Sony 46" XBR4 LCD. It looks great even without being powered on.

Only complaint with PS3 is lack of DTS-HD MA decoding. But that's not a big deal because my audio setup is a crappy HTiB that doesn't have neither HDMI input nor decent speakers. Those are next year's goals to solve.

The couch is OK.

Oh, and I need a steering wheel for my GT5 Prologue. Waiting for this baby to come out.

I'm pissed that my Denon AVR-987 (2807) HDMI can't be upgraded from 1.1 to 1.3.

The Logitech Driving Force Pro works GREAT with GT... I have mine set up on a rolling computer stand, with the wheel clamped to the keyboard tray, and the pedals on the bottom level.

This way, I can roll the wheel and pedals over to the couch, and drive in style! And still have the top surface available as a place to place a cold "beverage". I don't drink and drive, but it does add an additional degree of difficulty to GT.

1080p upscaling is irrelevant in a receiver, as far as I'm concerned. Receivers do more than enough as it is.

The Onkyo sr875 would be more comparable to the Marantz sr7002 than the sr8002, I think. The sr875 doesn't have a Toroidal transformer (the key difference between the sr7002 and the sr8002). The only Onkyo that might be better than the Marantz sr8002, as far as I'm concerned, is the nr905 (given its Toroidal transformer) - though I haven't really looked at it in much detail.

I've read/heard things that make me rather distrustful of Onkyo and, until Marantz was pointed out to me recently, I would have gone with the Pioneer 92 (not needing the extra HDMI sockets on the 94). I'd prefer to stay away from Onkyo products even if the nr875 is significantly better than the sr8002, given that the sr8002 has what I need.

And all things equal, have you seen the back plate on the Marantz receivers? Very nice..
Not that Onkyo's are bad, exactly.. they're certainly a major improvement over Pioneer's back plates.

I think Marantz is the way to go.

(Specs are only the beginning? )

hmmm...
yeah, sr875 lacks toraoidal, but nr905 has it. and both 875 and 905 rear panel seems to me pretty good organized, ant they?

Whoa! That's coolness my friend. I should look for something like that too.

I'm not sure about putting beverages on the top though. I'm afraid I'm going to get too excited the desk is going to shake and it will spill....
