Maybe this is the smaller film, with the Max sequel to follow later.

And I think that article just suffers from bad writing skills. I think what they meant to say was something like this: "The prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road (starring Tom Hardy) will instead focus on Charlize Theron's character, Furiosa."

A couple of parentheses make all the difference.

This is a different film, from everything we can tell right now. Miller himself said Furiosa wasn't going to be in The Wasteland, in part because she and Hardy didn't get along. So if she gets her own prequel, and Hardy gets The Wasteland, then they don't have to work tougher. It also helps that Wasteland isn't a prequel and this is...

Good. They can toss out Hardy and have Theron play Max instead. She was the best thing about Fury Road whereas he was the worst.

We don't need a prequel.. you don't need to flush out characters that much.. leave some hidden backstory.

Furiosa doesn't need a backstory.. we got the gist of it in Fury Road already. Continue the story.. don't go back.

Frankly, I don't think Anya Taylor-Joy would be a great choice for a younger version of Furiosa.

That said, I'm glad that Miller wants to do a spin-off prequel without Max. I think the New Max's story is finished, there's nothing more to add. His character's arc is perfect the way it is, leave "Fury Road" alone.

Furiosa could become the "Supergirl-like spin-off character" of the Mad Max World. So bring it on.

Fury Road Prequel Will Not Star Charlize Theron as Furiosa

"So after we finish [Three Thousand Years of Longing], and hopefully everything settles down with the pandemic, we’ll see what the world allows us to do with Furiosa," Miller explained.

Unfortunately, Theron will not be back to reprise her role as the fan-favorite character from Mad Max: Fury Road, as Miller explained his decision to recast despite advancements in technology.

"For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet," Miller said. "Despite the valiant attempts on The Irishman, I think there’s still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, particular Japanese video-game designers, but there’s still a pretty wide valley, I believe."

I personally haven't watched The Irishman but i would much rather have seen a sequel spin off for a Furiosa movie than a prequel without Theron tbh. She owned the role as a bad ass. Recasting and going back rather than doing something like a direct sequel seems like a waste.

Let's be honest, he hasn't got long left in him to churn out many more. Maybe 1 last go tbh. I hope it works out but if not, we have Fury Road

Am game for a film by Miller set in the Mad Max world. Glad this is going to be a sequel, feel there's no need in seeing her character after Fury Road. Wonder if Hardy will have a cameo in this some where.

Question

Is The Irishman giving people "Uncanny Valley" because the tech wasn't just right or because you "Know" De Niro and so on aren't that old?

It's a funny dilemma tbh and personally i think it could be the tech side moreso but it's an interesting angle to think of too.
