I just finished watching the Twilight Time release. This was a blind buy for me.
Great movie! I was really impressed by Audrey's performance. I think this is the most "mature" role I've seen her in. It's actually a little shocking to hear Hepburn use profanity and be frank about sex after associating her with roles in fare like Roman Holiday and My Fair Lady. This movie seemed in many ways ahead of its time. The transfer looks terrific--at least as good as Criterion's Charade to my eyes. This was a worthy addition to my movie library that I'll revisit again down the road. Last edited by Zen_Amako; 02-13-2017 at 12:02 AM. |

No need at all to double dip with the Twilight Time version because I already have the Masters of Cinema version from 2014. But that is a region B BR. As it was, it took a very long time for the dvd version to come out.

I was blown away when I finally saw it: the script, the editing, the performances, etc. This should be considered among the great classics of the 1960's. On the other hand Arabesque, which was a success back in its day, I found absolutely awful. A third rate Charade without either its chemistry or the plot. Donen didn't like it either! |

It was one of my earliest TT purchases. I knew nothing about it going in and wounded up really liking it. Hepburn and Finney are great and Mancini's score is fantastic.

Wow great that people are just discovering this film. I watched it over & over in my late teens/ early 20's on VHS. When I finally watched it on blu-ray was blown away by how good it looks.
I just watched Albert Finney's film "Charlie Bubbles" this week in the UK region B release from Indicator. In comparison of PQ that release from an older scan by Universal is VERY disappointing. For those just discovering Two For The Road, a big part of its success is due to the screenplay by Frederic Raphael. This was actually his follow up to his Oscar winning Best Original Screenplay for the 1965 John Schlesinger film Darling starring Julie Christie - the film she won her Oscar for. If you have never seen Darling, I highly recommend it as well. |
