Yeah, here's hoping with the success of Star Wars VII raking in the money to pay for all of the budgets and acquisitions Disney bought (lucasfilm, marvel, pixar, etc) over the years, they can finally get their Disney home entertainment budget back on track for the 3D blu ray market, which could be coincidence with Jungle Book 3D and The Force Awakens 3D release to blu ray 3D. Even so, most of us were convinced the Jungle Book 3D would never see the light of day in the US market, and here it is, released November 15, 2016. There is hope.

Thankfully Pixar and Marvel have been reliable for blu ray 3D regardless.

No US 3D blu for Pete's Dragon, Alice 2 or BFG though, very recent releases.

Got Lion King and Beauty and the Beast from Zavvi yesterday as part of their special offer. Also have Frozen, Tangled and others.

Though not released in North America, there must be a business reason behind Disney issuing these as all region, rather than B, since that allows those in the U.S. and Canada to have access to them.

By making them available to us, could Disney be evaluating the North American market and evaluating the data? I am not too sure about that since there is more than enough marketing information available based on the sale of other manufacturers 3D releases. Perhaps they find it more cost effective and profitable to simply produce and then distribute throughout Europe with us going through the web?

Your guesses are as good as mine. The bottom line is fiscal for if they felt there was a profit to be made, the "mouse" would pounce on it.

It might be they're using box office performance to guage whether it's worth releasing a 3-D Blu-Ray... those were Disney's three worst performing films of an otherwise record-setting year for them. Alice 2 was the sequel nobody was asking for, Pete's Dragon was similarly a kind of bizarre choice for Disney's next remake, and BFG was just a dismal under-performer.

I thought Pete's Dragon did alright though. It was made on a modest budget and had a decent (if unremarkable) gross.

It made its money back, I suppose, but its domestic gross was probably very disappointing for Disney, only exceeding its budget by around $10 million. Counting only domestic, it probably came nowhere close to making its budget+marketing back, so Disney probably took that to mean North American audiences just didn't care for it.

I have to admit, I didn't much like it and as I mentioned earlier, I thought it was a bizarre choice for a remake that absolutely nobody I've ever heard of was clamoring for. Disney should've taken the money they used for Alice 2 & Pete's Dragon, and made a 3rd TRON, instead. It probably would've done a bit better financially, and at least it's something people actually want.

Thanks for posting it. 3D looks like it could be good, thanks. The trailer is so dark though with the scenery and lighting, it's hard to tell easily.

The directors always talk it up but somehow when the films come out the 3D turns out to be the same old conservative Disney 3D with unremarkable depth and barely any pop-out. Remember The Jungle Book? Let's not forget that Disney actively seek to hobble strong 3D by dialling it back for the benefit of people who hate 3D... the logic of that is utterly perverse of course, but that's Disney!

Huh ?? The Jungle Book is one of the Best 3D Presentations last year by far along with the 3D Blu-Ray as well. It had amazing depth and some pretty cool pop outs as well.

The Jungle Book has stunning 3D but I wouldn't call it strong.

I thought the CGI looked amazing, and separation and volume were fine, but that's it. Depth was OK and there was barely any pop-out. For a jungle movie, I have to say that the 3D was a disappointment.

Most of which are very conservatively converted and also have barely any pop-out.

Castle interiors ought to look respectable but really I'm expecting the 3D to be on the same kind of level as Maleficent - much better than 2D and respectable enough, but hugely conservative with barely any pop-out.

It's interesting how the director's talk about 3D but then don't often deliver. Paul WS Anderson suggested the 3D in Resident Evil Final Chapter would be great (even though it would be converted this time), but it was the opposite; mostly mild 3D.

The 3D in the 2017 Beauty and the Beast's trailer looks good, mostly medium 3D layers from what I can see in that trailer AdamR posted before.
This Friday it's in theaters.

It just for IMAX, and will be cropped in standard 3D showings.

I'd love to see the IMAX version, but at least here, all the 3D IMAX showings are at like 10 at night (for all 3 theaters, I think doing all 3D showings at one of the IMAXes like Fantastic Beasts did is a better way to split them up) so will probably just go with a standard 3D showing.

I thought the same thing too!

They gave the depth a 5/5 score and say "pieces of showstoppers like "Gaston" and "Be Our Guest," and even the iconic ballroom dance manage to all take the 3D presentation to gorgeous heights." And then they still don't recommend the 3D.
