But doesn't Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars already exist?

Power armor, bugs*, and space politics, what more do you need to be Gears of War?

Yo, let’s go!

They got it do it with OGs and not the Gears 4 crew tho.

Depends if they'll just straight up adapt the games story. Or if they wanna tell a side story first or something mixed.

Regardless, with Netflix owning this I'm going to stay cautious. Same with Bioshock. These are big, expansive worlds withdrew lore. I don't have faith in them adapting these truthfully.

Im sure it will be about the OG crew. Willing to bet Bautista will be cast as Marcus Fenix as well. He's been vocal in the past about wanting the role.

You'd think Microsoft would take better care of their series, but after Halo it's clear they're only interested in money.

I love the Gears games and universe, so I am definitely interested. Maybe Dave Bautista will finally get to play Marcus now. I believe he has said that he's interested in the role and I can definitely see him as Fenix.

However, this being a Netflix production, rather than one being backed up by a major Hollywood studio, does have me a bit cautious based on some of their previous live-action video game adaptations. But hey, at least they are willing to give it a try.

It can go either way, I think, but I'll give them a chance of course. Here's hoping it turns out great.

Can't believe this is finally happening. Been playing some Gears 5 lately to celebrate.

Feel like Bautista is too obvious as Marcus. Don't have too many fan cast ideas but I think Laz Alonso or Omari Hardwick could work for Cole.

What usually happens in big budget hollywood, is they acquire the license to make a movie of a popular franchise, then they immediately ask "How can we make this different and our own story?" The original live action Super Mario Bros. movie shows how that can turn out. Thankfully there are a few producers who ask for a more accurate representation of the game's story.

I'm still not convinced that the original Super Mario Bros film was that bad, as a movie.

CGI barely existed, and Mario 64 hadn't happened yet, given that I'm not sure that in 1993 a more accurate representation of Mario's story wouldn't have been just as terribad as what we got. If Mario '93 had been released without the Super Mario name, would it be remembered more fondly, like the similarly-campy scifi classic Demolition Man?

For this film, my theory is that folks who liked Gears of War 1-3 would be more satisfied with Traitor of Mars, as this movie is going to be catered to the nu generation of Gears, GoW 4+, instead of to the OGs.

I've looked at a decent amount of fan casts and I think people are on the wrong path when they suggest Ryan Reynolds as Baird or John Cena. Even worse is the Rock as Dom.

But there's been some good ideas too.
Bautista as Marcus works for me. His performance in Army of the Dead is halfway there. I saw some say Joe Manganiello which isn't bad either.
Some have said Jon Bernthal as Dom. That's fine. But after seeing JD Bardo listed as a possibility I feel like that's the right direction.
Cena or Reynolds is too ridiculous for Baird. They would over shadow the lead and they just don't fit, imo. Then I saw some lists say either Wyatt Russell or Robbie Amell and those two work so much better for something like this.
And lastly, for Cole Train, a hell nah to Terry Crews and a YES PLEASE to Lester Speight. He is Cole. It's the best decision they can make in casting him.

As for a director for this, I saw someone say Doug Liman but I think that's because of Edge of Tomorrow.
Someone said Joe Carnahan, which I think is better. He would just have to lean into the violence a bit more and I know he's not huge on sci-fi and aliens and all that. But I still think he could work with this.

Have you seen Sean Penn lately? I just saw him on his PR tour of Europe and He's roided up and ready to roll.

IMHO this needs guys who aren't "Magic Mike" types, it needs guys who don't have "soft" muscles to woo the sex & the city crowd but who instead total gymbros who have their veins bulging and have so many "muscles on muscles" they almost look like mutants, as that's canon.

But TBF I can't unsee Manganiello being sexually harassed by horny wine moms on The Big Bang Theory, can't be an action hero like that

Cool.

I just wish they didn't waste this adaptation on Netlix.

David Leitch in talks to direct

Quote:
The Fall Guy director is in negotiations to helm Gears of War, Netflix’s big-budget adaptation of one of the biggest video game franchises on the Xbox platform.

Jon Spaihts, who is working with Denis Villeneuve on adapting Frank Herbert’s Dune books for Legendary, is writing the script for the feature for which Netflix has partnered with The Coalition Studio, the Canadian game developer behind the franchise.

Leitch and his wife and producing partner Kelly McCormick will produce the feature via their 87North banner along with The Coalition.
