Okay, thanks Levcore, I hear what you're saying about the style. The jokes are what I liked about it most (along with the colorful art work, creatures and action + the 3D), as it didn't take itself too seriously. James Gunn, the guy who wrote some Troma movies when he was starting, usually goes for comedy, as with his zombie film Slither, which was very entertaining while also being a dark horror movie about slugs and mutations.

That said, I also enjoy more serious, darker toned movies also, provided they deliver on the action. What's one of your favorite serious action films?
John Wick is kind of serious in tone, but has some humor to keep it light enough. The action is where the movie shines. Sequel in theaters this week.

Yeah I really like Slither. I like Gunn's style but there's just something about the trailer for this new one that kind of puts me off. Feels more like they're trying to sell toys with baby groot etc. Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my advancing years.

Yeah John Wick was good agreed, although it was very much style over substance which is fine for that kind of movie.

Probably my favourite straight action movie from last year was The Take starring Idris Elba.

Thanks Levcore. I'll have to check The Take out.
Baby Groot and Rocket Raccoon look comical, but I see what you're saying for the style of action movies you enjoy. What's cool is I know you support 3D movies even if you're not the biggest fan of the movie itself. The 3D in this one looks impressive, I hope the whole movie is like that.

I think I'm just apprehensive based on the trailers, hopefully the movie will impress. It's just the marketing is a bit too much like "This movie is hilarious! Here are all the characters you love!" at the moment but I can't blame the studio for pushing the comedic aspects.

I find for every Marvel movie I enjoy, there is one that I don't so i'll wait to be impressed and maybe i'll enjoy this one. I liked Doctor Strange but did not like Civil War.

Thanks Levcore. That reminds me of some of the trailers for Dreamworks, where they just show the comedy skits and tell you nothing about the story. They did that for Rise of the Guardians, where in some trailers for the movie, it just shows the tiny Santa Elves bopping around, bumping into each other and then they say, "See Rise of the Guardians in theaters Friday!" If I didn't get to see the story based trailer, I probably would've passed on it, but it turned out to be a good movie and what's funny is the elves appeared in about 1% of the film.

I saw the trailer in 3D today, looks like my kind of eye candy. I loved Slither, I loved Super, I loved the first one. This can't fail to please me.

Yeah, the colors, art design, characters, 3D. Now I have to rewatch part 1 3D again.
Here's hoping for an equally tough villain in part 2.

@JamesGunn Is the 3D going to be linear or more "party in the front," as with previous Marvel entries?

James Gunn Retweeted Adam Hlavac
Did you see Vol 1 in 3D? I think there was a reason we won the 3D Society’s film of the year. And this one, I promise, is even better.

Hey @JamesGunn - Any hints on if we should see Guardians in 2D or 3D?

James Gunn Retweeted Sneaky Zebra
I worked a lot on the 3D this weekend and it is honestly freaking me out how amazing it looks. So go for that!! And, if you can, @IMAX.

Disney James Gunn - New video interview on Collider

You can check out what James Gunn recently said about the 3D in GOTG 2 at around the 12:45 mark in the embedded video. Somewhat similar to his Twitter tweets. Brief but encouraging.

Post IMAX 3D version

James Gunn: "Those who have followed me awhile know that IMAX is the optimal way to view a Guardians movie. I personally oversee the 3D, crafting every shot, and only in IMAX do we shift aspect ratios during big scenes so that you get nearly 30% more screen size than anywhere else. Unlike many other films today where screen size shifts and 3D are afterthoughts, we plan our aspect ratios during the script stage, and every single shot is tailored for 3D as we shoot it. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is designed to be a fully immersive experience to be seen IN theaters. I'm glad that we've been able to partner up with IMAX from the moment of its conception."

I believe that has to do with the 80's Neon Glow fad, where you would walk into a theme park with light clothing on (Space Mountain at DisneyWorld for example) and your clothes would glow bright blue or green, etc. Starlord being hooked on the old 70's, 80's music.

That's great to hear James Gunn is crafting each shot for 3D and if the 3D trailers are early evidence, Guardians of the Galaxy 3D could be one of the best 3D theatrical movies of 2017.

Enjoy!

You're lucky and get to see this a good week or more earlier. This won't be in my theaters till May.

This is definitely one of my most anticipated films of 2017 for sci fi action. If the 3D in the trailer is any hint of what to expect, this could be very impressive 3D, but I'm temper my expectations and expect the dialog shots to be medium 3D compared to the stronger action 3D shots.

Thanks!

And yeah, I was surprised to see it being released on Monday instead of Thursday (MCU movies are usually released a week earlier here). This is balanced by The Lego Batman Movie coming out today lol!

Breakspear, here's a newer trailer with a peak at the strong 3D. Very impressive, can't wait to see this.

Just got out of the film in Imax 3D.

Really great 3D, similar to the first one, perhaps better. Strong during the action and visual effect scenes, mild/medium during quieter scenes. Plenty of depth and popouts, including a few frame breaking moments.

Definitely worth watching in 3D and Imax due to the VAR in those action sequences.

To me, the film wasn't as good as the first one, but still very enjoyable.

Glad to hear the 3D is good, not sure I can stomach the movie in theatres though. Looks like one I'd prefer to watch alone.
