It turned out that the HK blu-ray is 1080i50, which accounts for the difference in running time.

I saw this yesterday - as a double bill with 'Aquarius' - with both two hours and half - that was a marathon. It was interesting to compare the two, as each movie had three distinct 'parts' and each had there moments of sexual explicitness. As to 'The Handmaiden' I liked how the story unfolded in a non-linear fashion.

Just wondering if anyone has had problems playing Edko blu-rays.

I've purchased both Attack of Titan and The Handmaiden and both won't go past the piracy warning and Edko logo with my Sony bluray.

I recently watched this film and was disappointed, unfortunately I don't see what all those people saw who posted very positively on IMDB. The film was beautifully made and filmed although it did very little for me. Flame away.

I too am curious to find out if anyone else had compatability issues playing this on other USA Region A players. I own an-all region player with Pal compatability so I'm not too worried about purchasing the Edko blu-ray. Also does the Hong Kong release have the combination white and yellow subtitles for the respective Korean and Japanese languages?

Is it unusual that there hasn't been a Korean release of this yet?

Nope. Korean releases are sporadic with no specific window or time frame. Could come out six months after their theatrical release date, or take well over a year. Then there are some films that don't get releases at all. Though that won't be the case for this. Just have to wait until solid information for it.

Hopefully the wait is because they're also including the extended cut with the Korean release.

I just asked Plain Archive if they're releasing this themselves and this is their response:

"We're making and designing THE HANDMAIDEN Blu-ray, but it'll be released by CJ E&M."

DVD street date is Jan 24. If they're planning a blu-ray, they haven't told anyone.

Didn't someone earlier in the threat say that it would be getting a release by Plain Archive? That would be a real downer if it doesn't get released on blu-ray at all.

Plain archive are not releasing it they're just doing the authoring of the disc

Canada has the bluray coming out on Jan 24th. I might pick it up until the Korean version comes out.

It can be ordered on Amazon.ca. https://www.amazon.ca/Handmaiden-Mad...rds=handmaiden

Sorry, the question was specifically about a US release. There is already a HK blu, Canadian blu is due out Jan 24, and at some point there will be a Korean blu as others have mentioned.

Is there a reason that Canada is getting a blu-ray but US isn't? Is this common with foreign films?
