I can't say any kind of Barbie movie is something I'd be interested in seeing and so I won't, but this does sound like the kind of thing that would trigger the anti-SJW/feminist people quite strongly (which is always deliciously ironic as they love to complain about how those groups are... well, oversensitive and whiny), so I say bring it on for that reason alone. Their reactions will provide me with more entertainment than watching the movie would.

That said, if it was an animated movie, Schumer would be a fine choice to voice Barbie, but not necessarily a live action Barbie.

Kate McKinnon would be a much better choice to play a weird live action Barbie IMO.

Clearly there are many Barbie purists on this forum who feel that the integrity of the brand is at stake.

Would have been interesting to see people's reactions if they cast a black/Latina/Asian actress instead.

Wouldn't phase me one bit, since there are Barbies of various ethnicities out there. Can't speak for other people who avoid the Barbie aisle because of that though lol.

She's the star of the movie, yes, but she's not playing the traditional Barbie role. Barbie is a universe with different characters in it.

Eh, my reaction was less of something like that and more of a "well, this isn't going to sit well with the internet". Plus Sony has been coming up with frankly bizarre ideas for movies lately, like that frickin' emoji movie that's coming out next year.

But what do you expect when the head of your movie division is also the same guy who tried to sabotage the X-Men series (among many other dumb choices)?

I know what it says, I can read. And she's playing "Barbie," period, just like every trade is reporting and this article starts out by saying. Whether it's a different Barbie, or there's hundreds of them, whatever. But she's still cast as Barbie, whether you want to make semantics out of it or not. Still a horrible casting decision of one of the most unappealing people in show business.
