I would always prefer a cover of the NA theatrical art but that is never a determining factor for purchase. I will agree that a cover art such as the one here is not very appealing. Pretty much as bad as it can get.
I will be buying for sure ![]() |

Filthy Inescapably Nauseating Excrement?
Seriously though, this just brings me back to the same question I always have: Why the intense need for studios to ignore iconic poster art in favor of generic big faces? These catalog titles aren't even going to be on a retail shelf anywhere, so there is no need to pander to the alleged love of large generic faces. "Gosh, I wish this Blu-ray didn't have the original poster art, I'd buy it if it had generic photoshopped large faces"... said by no one ever. I was planning on buying How to Steal A Million on day one, but at this point I am leaning towards waiting until it shows up in a $10 sale just to protest the cover art. |

Might have to get this even though it's on Netflix. Two of my favorites in a really fun movie, and I don't wanna regret missing out if/when this sells out.
And I don't mind the cover art. Not what I would've chosen personally, but it's OK. It's just a cover, after all. |

BUT, I also don't agree with a cover having to be the original poster art 100% of the time. There were crappy posters back then, just as there are today. Criterion improved on In a Lonely Place vastly IMO. I also preferred the initial cover of Key Largo before WAC changed it to the original poster due to fan demand. I simply can't agree with that philosophy; I'm not loyal to what was produced at the time of release, I just like good artwork. With How to Steal a Million, I don't find the original poster to be that great. It's fine, sure, but I'm not decrying its absence in this particular case. I like the faces of Hepburn and O'Toole, surely they're not generic? I like the image of them there. Not saying I like it better than the original poster, but it's ok to me, not offensive. It feels like people are programmed to think anything that's not the poster is crap. I'm also not blindly defending Twilight Time, they've made some questionable or crap covers. |

Not really, maybe it seemed that way though. I am just a fan of the original cover art. Will the new art make me not buy the disc? Probably not, but for the first time ever, I seriously had a moment of pause where it might have lost a spot near the top of my must buy list.
I wonder how many of these photoshop abominations result from the original art not being licensed/available from the studio... |

The artwork is dated and when you are trying to sell as many copies as possible, then the appeal of a less "dated" cover might help push copies. Large faces on small products grab the average consumer's eye over images with no faces (and help tell them immediately who's starring in the movie). There's lots of reasons. Good thing the cover art doesn't matter one bit, because you don't sit and look at it for 2 hours like you do the movie. |

Not loving the cover art it looks as bland as the old FOX DVD cover. Wished they could have used the original poster artwork or a variation like the CD soundtrack. It may have cost more to use it... but image quality is most important and have to buy this one I prefer this Hepburn to the much more revered Two For the Road.

Depends on the master they were provided. The recent Fox and Sony titles (that appeared to be from new 4k masters, including HTSAM) look amazing from what I saw. However, some of the early TT titles from Fox that used old masters made for the DVD releases (Titus, Demetrius and the Gladiators) look really bad even on the compression front. A lot of the MGM/UA titles use MGM's own dated masters that were made for SE DVD releases and HDTV, so while most of them shouldn't look as bad as Titus, they have their own inherent issues and compression isn't too great on a few.
