I wouldn't pay more than 50 pounds for it. I was hoping that it would be around 40 quid.

I may consider selling my Shogun Assassin steel to fund this. I'm sure I can live without lossless audio on this film if I did.

Like a fool, I gave away the dvd copy (as a present) that came with the Shogun Assassin steelbook so I can't sell it.

Why not? I sell incomplete releases of movies from time to time. Perhaps you may not get as much as a complete release, but there is still a market for it.

Given the Samurai trilogy has an RRP of £39.99 I can't see this being the same price point with twice as many films. I'd expect £60 or £70 as an RRP, but who knows what kind of discounts will be around. I think some people managed to get the Samurai trilogy for about £24, so at that ratio £40 might happen if you keep a keen eye out for the best price/voucher combo.

Amazon listing is up: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N30QO1I/

Looks like it'll probably be about £60 once the price eventually drops then.

That is a moronic MSRP for the UK market (and looks to be just a forex conversion at current rates of the US $99.99 MSRP).

Yeah, can't really see them selling fast considering it's only a 3-disc set (though might get a bunch of pre-orders as some people have been begging for an upgrade from Eureka for years).

Hopefully they'll put some of the box sets on offer too next time they have a discount deal on the single titles. Might consider this at a £35-40 mark later in the year.

I guess we're lucky they didn't convert the price and add 20% to cover the VAT, which seems to be the current vogue for American companies selling in the UK, post-the fall of sterling.

We've been asking whether they'd release boxsets in the UK...I guess we'd all need 2nd mortgages if they did given that ridiculous price. Half it and we're still not at the 40 quid price point I think many will bite at.

Agreed. At that price I'd expect it to come in a replica baby cart

87.99? Ouch...

The price of the limited edition of Donnie Darko was originally 35 pounds but dropped to 24 before release date. Will be interesting to see how much the price of a Lone Wolf and Cub boxset will drop. I could understand the high price if each film came on an individual blu-ray but my understanding is that it's seven films spread across only three discs.

Officially six films - they're counting Shogun Assassin as an extra, as much as I love it. Erroneously, on the Zoom site they've listed it as a "6 Disc Box Set" and listed it for £79.99 which is definitely wrong number of discs so probably wrong price too.

I reckon it should drop to £59.99, in line with the US price. Certain barely anyone with any sense will buy it at that £80-90 price. I'm not even gonna consider paying £59.99 myself, and will probably wait for a sale or something (I already have the Eureka DVD set, and the separate Shogun Assassin BD too).

I don't get why they seem to be pricing for the UK market taking in to account the current forex but also region locking. Surely region locking the UK releases ameliorates the majority of (any) concerns about US customers importing UK releases because of the forex rate.

Criterion moves in a mysterious ways their UK releases to perform. How unsearchable are their judgments, and their ways past finding out.

Unless, of course, the whole UK operation is just a tax loss scam. I mean, it's not like they actually seem to want to sell many copies of, well, pretty much anything they've released.

In what alternate universe is £59.99 acceptable for three round bits of plastic, thrown into a cardboard case?

No, ta.

What about three round bits of plastic that offer ten and a half hours worth of films, and two plus hours of extras thrown into a cardboard case? That makes a bit of difference, surely?
