In terms of emotion, A Monster Calls and I, Daniel Blake have stuck with me the most in terms of how much I thought about them after. The film that made me happiest this year was Everybody Wants Some!!, with Moana close behind, and Finding Dory lit my life up. Hell or Highwater is the first to come to mind in terms of excellent filmmaking, and finally, perhaps the weirdest film to stick with me this year, is Suicide Squad. I have a LOT of issues with Suicide Squad, none of which were lessened over the four times that I watched it in cinema. But that's just it...I watched it FOUR times, and I wanted to. And to be honest, it's not like I hate the film (I clearly don't), but no film this year has kept me coming back like that one has

I have to agree on A Monster Calls. I found the film a real surprise and not at all what I was expecting since I had not really read much about it. I watched it a couple of weeks ago before any real press came out since it didn't hit theatres in L.A. until this week. It really moved me in a way I did not see coming. I might not have even seen it but for the fact that I receive DVD screeners for awards voting and this arrived on my doorstep so I took a look at it. I'm glad I did.

The Witch- Eerie, creepy, unsettling, great stuff.
Nightcrawler-I'm now a fan of Jake Gylenhall. *late viewing*
Pete's Dragon-I wasn't expecting much but I can't remember the last time I could so highly recommend a film for the whole family.
The Nice Guys- RC & RG have great chemistry together. I've watched this movie 4 times this year. A Lot for me.

Deep Water Horizon. This has a formulaic set-up. though given this is based on a true story this helps elevate interest in the characters. I thought the acting was very good. the audio was out of this world. I cried at the damage and trauma done to the individual because of corporate greed.

4.5/5

Don'te Breathe, Moonlight, Neon Demon, and The Witch are already classics as far as I'm concerned.
