Is supernatural possession horror getting tiring?

The glut of these types of films the last few years (aka the Conjuring, Insidious (and their spin-off films), and all the exorcism-themed films) seems like Hollywood is beating a dead horse into the ground. I enjoy horror films about the occult and the supernatural, and I think what's needed is some fresh concepts and ideas. We don't need more "jump scares" and "booming, rumbling "ominous" sound cues" and that sort of stylistic approach either. It's grown tiresome....

Recently I liked Oculus (Mike Flanagan is great) but Conjuring 2 was a big meh

Depends on how they're done.

Is a typical, Blumhouse/big budget/Hollywood/wide-release horror film? Then yeah, a little.

Are they beautifully crafted, unique ways of telling a story? Then not at all.

You could also say that about other genres and besides, "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

I for one don't mind most of the recent horror movies: Conjuring 1 & 2, Annabelle (yes, I liked it), The Last Exorcism, Paranormal Activity 1-3, Insidious 1, The Visit, Sinister 1, The Possession etc ect. And this is coming from an old school horror buff.

Oh and I absolutely hated Cabin In The Woods.
