I'm thrilled to see that this is the next Signature edition. It's one of the few vault titles (along with the Fantasias) that I don't have yet. I'll definitely be grabbing both Bambi and Bambi II.

I luckily got it in an auction for $13 last year. Brand New with DMR code and all! Still
double dipping.

So, we're getting 3 releases this year?

Interesting. If so, seems like they're rushing through the Signature line.

on DMC Website. No date given yet.
Aside from maybe the title typeface, this is the first Signature edition to have better artwork than the Diamond or Platinum edition. At least, imo.

I've seen it and yes; it is worth it. A lot of love was put in this production.

Speaking of, I may now join DMC if this Bambi II release has new material.

I despise it. Seriously. The original is a towering work of animated art, with very sparse dialog. The made-for-video sequel is aimed squarely at the Disney Channel demo. "A Young Prince does not say woo-hoo."

Ugh.

The animation is a step up from typical direct-to-video Disney titles of the time (trying to be nice here) but obviously not in the same ballpark as the 1942 film. Thank God it isn't included on-disc with the Signature release.

It's the cover of the old Bambi/Bambi II DVD combo release.

Anyway, I'll finally be able to have the five Golden Age features in my DMA/iTunes/Vudu accounts. Bambi is the only one I'm missing. Been holding out on picking up Saludos Amigos, because you gotta figure a two-feature release of Amigos and Caballeros is coming at some point. The remastered and restored Caballeros looks smashing.

Agreed. I really like the artwork, and I'm struck by how well it matches the Best Buy exclusives for Snow White and Pinocchio. Instead of a circular stamp on the art for the Walt Disney Signature Collection, it's got a proper banner on top like those slips do along with the silver framing. Plus, it has a nice color background instead of a white canvas like the general releases. If Best Buy ends up doing an exclusive for Bambi, I don't see how it can top this.

Maybe we'll finally see the deleted boards for the moment Bambi and his father find the dead body of a hunter, and the alternate scene where Bambi finds Thumper shot and dying. Yeah, that's true. Not bloody likely to make the disc, but it's true.

Didn't a single storyboard for the hunter sequence sneak into the Second Screen app for the Diamond release? Obviously that's not as good as the whole sequence, but I could've sworn there was a board in the midst of the galleries where you saw the boots of the hunter with the rest of the body face down and mostly off frame. I need to go back and check that out.

There are a couple of pictures from the Dead Hunter boards in the Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston book, "Bambi: The Story and the Film". The sequence stayed in the film until the first work-in-progress preview for the studio employees. The audience was with the film right up until that sequence, when Thomas and Johnston said the crowd shot straight up out of their seats. Walt cut the whole scene afterwards.

As for Thumper, the story team was big on having Thumper go down, and thought it would be very powerful, but it was decided that Bambi would get the bullet instead. Since *everybody* couldn't get shot at the end of the film, Thumper was saved.

I have the Diamond Edition so this is a pass for me..... unless Best Buy gets an exclusive litho slip. I'm just a sucker for those

I'm guessing this will be the Best Buy exclusive art. If the first 3 Signatures are any indication, the blu wide release art matches the DVD only art. That means the Bambi wide release art could be.....

The way I read the listing on DMC is a 2-pack, as in the 2 separate releases together for the discounted price (optional litho of Bambi only), not together in the same packaging. The image is probably just a placeholder. In the information section, it shows them separately as 'What's Included.' It says "Club Exclusive Combo Pack," but only to describe Bambi II because that's its title on the site.

I'm really hoping this will have one of the recently found Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts. Like the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Signature Edition had Hungry Hobos (on digital only unfortunately), and Pinocchio had Poor Papa as a bonus feature.
