I watched it. I disliked it , but I think it was due to the bad picture quality. Will an improved video quality help this movie?

Well, it definitely looks hugely different than the old Image and Mill Creek DVDs. It's an eye-opening transfer. But it is the same movie at its core.

Hmmm I gave it a second watch and it was worse than the first time. It just feel like too much of a cheap creepshow rip off. I think I will be passing on this. The bad reviews here are also making me think.

Picked up my copy of Deadtime Stories and watched it last night. The VHS from back in the day of rentals was edited and I remember less gore and less nudity than in this version on blu-ray. Not sure if this is true, just how I remember it. How's the movie itself? Well, many people here were putting this film down and I honestly don't see why. This is a comedy/horror film that is very cheesy but has charm oozing from every pore. The comedy seems to be the main focus here with very little in the way of actual scares. The gore level is solid and really inventive. There's a sprinkling of nudity but the Cathryn DePrume scene is the highlight of the movie. Not only is she stunning but she is absolutely charming, delivering a memorable performance as Goldi Lox.
Everyone seems to be having a blast and the interviews on the disc confirm this. The clever play on classic fairy tales adds a level of ingenuity to the film. Yes it's rough and yes it's low budget but it's undeniably fun. I'm surprised about the hate this film seems to be getting when it feels like a total cult classic. I recommend this to those who enjoy fun low-budget movies from the 80s. PQ is fantastic, AQ is good and the extras are excellent! Amazing release of a largely forgotten film. |

As someone who loves horror anthologies I was looking forward to this, but had my expectations in check. The stories in this are mediocre at best. Some eye candy and a decent amount of gore. OK wraparound story with an uncle telling inappropriate stories to his nephew that can't sleep.
Im glad to own it though and hope more types of films like this come out on blu. |

This is definitely one of those 'movies' where you realize childhood nostalgia is not always a reliable guarantee for future enjoyment. Like a lot of other horror films during the video boom back then, it does have awesome box art and a clever title at least.

I posted a very negative User Review. Although I am a big fan of horror anthologies, I ended up hating the movie, especially the final segment. Its "broad" humor is wretched and amateurish.
NOTE: I understand voting down comments or reviews with which one vehemently disagrees, but considering how few people take the time to post thoughtful User Reviews (especially compared to the "early" years of this site), it would be more constructive to write one's own opposing thoughts in a review. It's a cult classic...love having this on blu. There are plenty more cheesy films from the 80s I'm waiting for on blu. Arena : Man Vs Monster is one of them... |

You guys are nuts. This is a textbook example of a drive in movie. It starts out fairly serious and then starts alternating boobie scenes with gross out scenes. The idea is that that boobie scenes give the guy in the car in the audience an excuse to make a move. If it doesn't work the gross out scene gets the girl giggling and off base so he can try again. If anyone is paying attention by the end, they can't get a girl so the movie gets silly to give them some fun. Did anyone notice that the 3 Bears segment was based on Chuck Jones WB cartoons? It kept referring to the stuff Jones did. Dialogue too. And naming a character Jack B. Nimble is a hell of a lot of fun. This film is a lot of fun!
