Phenomena won't be the first "Arrow-made" 4K restoration. Alfredo Garcia, Deep Red, Donnie Darko, Suture, The Bloodstained Butterfly, The Driller Killer and To Live and Die in LA all were 4K restorations made by/for Arrow (in opposition to just licenced from whoever commissioned it and paid for it in the first place).

So I suppose the financial won't be much different than for these titles, and that 3000 to 5000 copies sold should be about right to recoup the costs (providing the aforementioned releases recouped their costs with this kind of print runs).

It will be interesting to find out which cuts are included. I'm actually expecting just the 110 and 116 minute cuts. I expect that the Creepers cut will remain a Synapse exclusive. I prefer to watch the full-length version anyway, I had to make do with Creepers on vhs and personally don't have any desire to revisit it.

Ditto. That’s exactly what I want. And I've seen the US Creepers while ago but certainly didn't enjoy that much.

Yes, and them revisit it is a hopeful sign for other relatively disappointing releases being improved someday (I'm thinking Bay of Blood and Tenebre, new scans for both would rule).

Why does everyone want a new release of Tenebrae?

This already remastered Arrow release looks great

It looks good (I own it, it's watchable) but neither that nor the Synapse presentation of a flawed master will be the definitive release of Tenebre on home video. It needs a new scan without the problems. Tenebre on Arrow remastered or Synapse is more problematic than Phenomena Synapse 110.

Because it currently costs a fortune per unit to author and manufacture, and the market demonstrably isn't big enough to justify the expense - right now, Arrow would either have to absorb a thumping loss or charge an unrealistically high RRP, which would merely result in most people buying the BD instead.

As with Blu-ray, independent labels are keeping a keen eye on the UHD 4K situation, and of course Arrow's creating more and more natively 4K restorations in order to future-proof their masters, but there are no plans to move into UHD BD any time soon until the underlying numbers shift significantly in their favour and it becomes established beyond doubt that the format has legs.

(The situation is broadly similar to Blu-ray circa 2005/6 - it wasn't until 2008/9 that boutique labels moved into the format in any meaningful way, and for the same reasons.)

I'd love to do be doing UHD BDs for the independent labels as well. But, like other people said, it's early days yet. I'm glad studios are now doing the restoration work in 4K so the materials exist for the possibility later for when it's more financially appealing for them.

Having said that - we've moved into the next phase, which is where people are beginning to ask for it.

There isn't a reason for it to be exclusive, is it ?
What could prevent Arrow to cut down their new 4K restoration to recreate the shorter Creepers cut, just like they cut down their 4K restoration for Deep Red ?
It might not be very relevant to the UK market (if I understand well where the Creepers cut comes from), but technically speaking or from a right holders point of view, it doesn't seem so strict to me.

These two were restored by L'Immagine Ritrovata. However, in the case for Deep Red, Arrow sent back the restoration to get the colour fixed, and so it did.

Haven't seen that one but it's miles below SUSPIRIA, DEEP RED, and INFERNO.

It was out in the UK as Creepers on VHS, I remember it being on Palace Pictures with it's trademark neon colours artwork.

I've never seen that particular version, I am kind of interested but it's not a deal-breaker for me if it's not included, more of a curiosity.

We're talking about the same label that released Microwave Massacre. Phenomena is in the top echelons of quality in this world.
