The bumping of this thread finally reminded me to pick this up. Watched it last night. Still holds up really well. It might be my 4th favourite post 2000 era slasher behind Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer & Valentine.
Has anyone done comparisons to the Scream release? I thought it seemed a little waxy but I'm really not sure if my BD player is out of wack at the moment so I can't be sure. |

Just for clarification - all dvd's / blu's so far are the cut R-rated theatrical version, that is correct?

I would also like to know how this compares to the Scream Factory release in terms of picture. Anyone know?

A couple death scenes were re-shot and still were edited down to nothing.
There was supposed to be more explicit sexual dialogue in some scenes. The orgy at the end, was going to be a bit more explicit. And I suspect more graphic violence once the killer crashes the orgy. The movie kept getting an NC-17 in the U.S., and so the movie kept being re-cut, until we have the final result, which was then sent straight to basic cable premiere(further edited for language and brief nudity) instead of the planned theatrical release. Also it was made right after Columbine, and there was a huge backlash against violent media in the U.S. So all that also played a role in why the film was so heavily cut before earning an R rating. And it's never been released uncut, not even a workprint has leaked out. The company that produced the movie went out of business. So who knows what happened to the footage. It may have been thrown in the trash, or is just in a vault somewhere in an unmarked film canister lost among a sea of film canisters. |

And also the main reason why Scream 3 is so aenemic (but let's face it, that film has more problems than merely a lack of gore).
