Most Shout titles ship early when you order direct from their website.

I pre-ordered direct from their website. When you do that you get it two weeks early.

Recently watched Car Wash on Blu. Great film, though I've only seen this once before.

Technical review:

PQ was, overall, excellent. Very sharp, with good color(s) and also great sound. To me, this is unquestionably a significant improvement over the older DVD.

Film review:

-Hilarious movie, and one of my favorite '70's comedies. I found myself laughing out loud during numerous scenes, which rarely happens these days.

-George Carlin's short appearance(s) as the taxi driver whose fare stiffed him were funny.

-The obnoxious kid riding around on his skateboard and blowing raspberries at everyone was great, since I remember kids doing this back in the day (though not to this extent - LOL).

- Richard Pryor's "cameo" was amusing, on two levels:

His character of "Daddy Rich" was great, and obviously a sarcastic condemnation of those hypocritical religious figures that were everywhere in the '70's & '80's. I liked how he ended up blatantly turning Bill Duke's criticism around, and also how everyone listening to him lapped up his b.s. Very true re: the way many people reacted/still react to people like this.

It was ironic but intentional that Pryor was given top billing in the film, was in the forefront of the movie poster, etc. - given that he was barely in the movie Obviously his inclusion was done to help "sell" the film

-Quite possibly the funniest scene in the entire film was when that upscale Beverly Hills mom had to pull into the car wash because her kid was getting sick & she needed her car cleaned. After she took him to the bathroom & then got her car washed, she gave the car wash attendant a tongue-lashing (due to her thinking there was still a dirt mark on the car). As she was leaving, the kid ended up puking on her & all over the interior of the car. Extremely funny

-Also, the film also made me think about car washes like this where people actually wash the cars, instead of machines. Do they even still exist? The ones I've seen are all automated; I haven't seen a hand-washed car wash in years - other than those you see being put on by fund-raisers.

I actually stopped using the automated ones when one of them scraped up the bumper of my car many years ago. I complained to the car wash attendant, and they denied that the car wash had anything to do with this.

Car Wash was one of my favorites growing up as a kid and the Blu-ray sounds damn good to me.

Default A 70's fave of mine

Glad to know it's been released on Blu-ray. The review page here is incorrect in its tech information...it is a BD25 disc, not a BD50.

Well, it took me a while but I finally got there! I picked up Car Wash during Shout!'s Christmas sale and it arrived tonight. So into the play it goes!

I know the song far more than I do the movie - I might have seen it ages and ages ago, but if I did I don't remember it. So it was fresh eyes tonight. Final verdict? I really dug it, baby. I don't think it was as funny as Mr Widescreen thought, but it was charming as hell. I love little slice of life movies like that, the 70's, the disco and soul, the culture - sure the story doesn't go anywhere, but who cares. I was never bored.

(And man, I loved TC's hair. I didn't think afros that large existed outside of Undercover Brother!)

The only regret of the disc? That Shout! didn't include the apparently extensive alternate material from broadcast TV. Still, no regrets - totally worth picking up if you're looking for a less rough and tumble, sleazy blaxploitation flick.

I finally bought the Blu-ray of Car Wash and all I have to say is that it looks phenomenal. I do wish that they would've included the deleted TV version scenes as an extra though.

Batman & Robin may be Joel Schumacher's most well known (or infamous) movie, but pound for pound, I will contend that Car Wash is goddamned Brilliant!

Interested in getting either the US release by Shout or the German release by Wicked-Vision (a fellow member posted about having watched this Shout Select title (I didn't know Car Wash had had any Blu-ray releases). Having checked out the film on the IMDb and subsequently looking at the Blu-ray.com review of Shout's release, it's a shame the network TV scenes weren't included (are they lost?).

I've loved this film for the last three decades, it never gets old.

SNL's Garrett Morris provides the biggest chuckles when he says "That's some tuuuuuuuff shit, man!" to a guy in a body cast who's a passenger in an AMC Pacer!
