I should watch the movie sometime...I bought it twice already. Not crazy about the audio being mono only...

Great news indeed. Never owned it in any format, so looking forward to it even more.

When will this be out in the US? I have the current version so will the new edition really be that much better?

Exactly what part of "brand-new 4K restoration from the original negative" are you struggling with, private?

Yes, there are concurrent UK and US releases and it's a new 4K restoration so it'll look much better.

I'm an ensign. I don't respond to private!

It'll be a 4k but on a regular BD diskc. Think it'll be much better than the current version?

MGM - 1080i HD master

Arrow - 2160p UHD master

Hmmm.

Also, see: The Fugitive, Casablanca, Army of Darkness, and The Sound of Music.

What about them? I have the most recent releases of the first second and last of your list. I didn't realize they're 4k releases on a standard BD!

It's a new master sourced from the original negative so yes, it will be better.

The current version looks wretched. Despite the fact the we'll be left with a 2K rendering of a 4K source (oh, how I wish the Arrows and Criterions of the world would start releasing UHDs!), the remastering from the original negative will surely yield an image that will decimate the current turd on the market.

The MGM releases are 5.1 remixes only.

Arrow are finally giving us the original mono (as heard in theatres).

What's not to love??

Arrow's been on a 4K remastering kick with no actual UHD releases in sight. I agree, they need to make the most of their efforts and move it up a notch.

I think you need to take some time and learn what the word "master" means in relation to home video releases.
