From what I understand, HD DVD and Blu-ray are manufactured in two different facilities, so how would the mixup happen if it wasnt intentional sabatoge. It didnt prove anything other than WB needs better QC efforts to prvent future remakes.
You are right, this does cost them thousands of thousands of dollars to fix, not to mention the loss of credibility among the consumers buying their product.

Man, think of any way to compare the 2 formats and DUD is clearly the loser. Why there are still people foolish enough to believe in it is simply beyond my comprehension.

Great points - all of them !! Its a shame the average user who is going out buying HDDVDs is not aware of this, its all about the cheaper option.

I too don't think it was anything intentional.

I think it was "crunch time" for them - they had a lot on their plate they wanted to deliver before the end of year and mistakes happened. I see this type of thing in my own line of work.

Warner Bros. is anti-Region Code, so they do not "want" it. Fox and Disney are the DRM control freaks.

The region coding is simply an option.

It's good to have the option,.. you don't need to use it. Many titles are region free it just gives them more control if they want it.

Yet it looks like New Line does, odd isn't it?

They wouldn't. In the unlikely case it is deliberate, it would be due to HD DVD fanboy sabotage low down within Warner or their replicator trying to curtail sales. It wouldn't be official, wanted, or tolerated.

Somebody loads hoppers, or however they do it. The discs don't come off the line mixed. Some human had to mix them.

Not much of a sense of humor, Mr Forbes. I bet you're real fun at parties, if you get invited to any.

All kidding aside, as someone else pointed out, hd-dvd and Blu-ray are made at different facilities. That's a BIG screwup.

I'm a ton of fun at parties and have a great sense of humor. But dumb is dumb.

Yes, it's a big screw up. But a company intentionally doing it to provide them with "cover" for a straight-up business decision?? Please....

Agreed. People reading into every little thing Warner does like their bottom line depends on selling a few HD discs.

Maybe they are manufacturing evidence for why they have to drop hd-dvd. It is just getting too confusing managing three formats (DVD, hd-dvd, and Blu-ray) etc etc etc.
I thought you were going to say, "To test the resiliency of Blu-ray customers." I think most of us behaved in a reasonable manner.

It might have been some Blu-ray hater working at the factory. He/she/they might have overheard the rumors about Warner going Blu and they got pissed.

Or, Warner wanted to screw up on purpose to see if Blu-ray fans will still stay loyal to Blu-ray and WB.

WB goes DUD because it is beyond their ability to package and distribute BD competently?

Or it may be hat there having problems with the Blu-Ray side and they may drop Blu-ray because that is what is giving them problems. Oh No they wouldn't drop Blu-ray. Well they won't drop either they have said time and time again they will remain nuetral.
