Best news I have heard all year!! I'm a HUGE Captain Scarlet fan.
I have been dying to see both the original and new series on BR. Felt so sad seeing Thunderbirds get released on BR and no news of CS at all.
I hope this means that they will eventually do the original series on BR as well?

Would have been nice if they released the original series this year to celebrate the 50th Anniversary, will have to make do with the 4 episodes spread among the HD21 and Supermarionation releases for now but I hope it and the other shows eventually get restored/remastered and released on Blu-ray.

I'm reading elsewhere the original 5.1 mix is missing from the discs, only LPCM 2.0 and they've replaced the original credits with a modern re-edit.

Wtf!!!

Modern? It was 2005 FFS. Where does this revisionism end, this year? Last?

Maybe it was the same issue as with the Doctor Who series 1 - 4 blu-rays where it was simply easier, and no doubt cheaper, to remake the end credits rather than faff around un-interlacing those featured on the original master files?

As for the lack of 5.1 mix, a shame but not a deal breaker.

From Gerry Anderson's site:

SPECIAL FEATURES
[] Episode-specific audio commentaries with Gerry Anderson, David Lane and Wayne Forester
[] Captain Scarlet and the Return of the Mysterons
[] Andercon 2014 Panel
[] Image galleries including concept art and CGI renders
[] and more!

Classification 12
Number of Discs 3
Picture 1080i HD 1.78:1
Sound 5.1 / Stereo / English
Subtitles English
Region A, B and C
Time 572 mins.

I would interpret that as 5.1 and Stereo audio options.

FYI if your going to buy it definitely don't get it from them, over a tenner cheaper from Network.

That specification is WRONG.
Network site says only Stereo and this is confirmed by people who received copies from Amazon yesterday.

Network said 5.1 yesterday. I've bloody sold the DVD set now as well, confident Network wouldn't screw this up.

I've watched three episodes on this set so far and I'm kind of wishing they kept the original titles.

I checked out the new opening and ending sequences via YouTube, and they are a deal breaker. The original opening sequence in particular was far superior, and I don't believe for a second that this is what original production team wanted, as stated elsewhere.

Unfortunately I got rid of the DVD releases already, I really have to stop doing that. I didn't expect this Blu-ray release to be stuffed up. Why can't people resist tampering with the footage? especially long after the series has been released on TV and DVD, and people are expecting the original.

The sound is stereo but at least it's LPCM - personally I'd rather have lossless stereo over lossy 5.1.

The replacement of the original opening credits is mind boggling, the new ones are...woeful Honestly, whoever thought that these are a better bet than the original ones needs to be taken aside and given a slap.

PQ is great though, and the extras are decent.

Overall, glad I picked it up. As ever though, now I just really, REALLY, want the original series on blu in its entirety.

Can you link to the YouTube videos, I tried to find them but had no luck?

I don't think I can link directly, since it is copyrighted material. Just search for 'new captain scarlet', and set Filters to 'This week' only.

Thanks, I don't really see what's so bad about the new title sequence. I agree it's weird that they even bothered to redo it at all though.

I think they tried to just speed up the pace and create a more generic title sequence. It's not bad - just, as others have said, I don't really see the point... they should have just kept the originals.

I was working at Pinewood (at another CG studio) when they were making this series, and it was (by all accounts) a bit up and down, as it was initially a co-production between a couple of CG houses and then ended up being rebuilt under the hand of Ron Thornton (who did the Babylon 5 VFX).
