It must be a Blu-Ray with a Dreamgirls coaster. honestly though I don't need a DVD copy with any of my Blu-ray sets. I know some may give them away to family members but the HD editions are what the releases are all about.

true sad they drop a bonus features disc in favor of a disc that for me will never ever get used.

I've never seen this film, but that digibook has me tempted.

Dreamgirls (the movie) was ok, but I wish the filmmakers would have cast Jennifer Holliday who've played Effie in the original Broadway show in New York, the U.S Tour, and had won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical to star in the film version. Even Jennifer Holliday had admitted in numerous interviews that she was snubbed completely by not being asked to star in the movie. To me, Jennifer Holliday (a powerhouse singer) will always be the best Effie from Dreamgirls in my book, not Jennifer Hudson and no other female vocalist! Jennifer Holliday's song: And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going on the original cast album of Dreamgirls, blows away Jennifer Hudson's in the movie, and other songs as well. There is no comparison!

It'll be compressed, just lossless packed PCM instead of lossy.

She originated the role in 1982. The movie releases in 2006. How was she supposed to play the role of a young girl in a singing group? That would have made no sense. Especially when all of her childhood friend co-stars are 30 years younger than her.

Jennifer Holliday didn't look any different back in 2005 than what she looked like in 1982, except for the weight loss....Diana Ross was way too old when she was cast to play Dorothy in The Wiz, and that was only because of Berry Gordy's favoritism towards Diana Ross. Stephanie Mills who've played Dorothy in the original The Wiz, and a much better singer than Diana Ross should've been cast in the movie as well, and Stephanie Mills was very upset about it, (and she should've been) because she knew that she would have been much better for the role of Dorothy in the movie version than Diana Ross.

She'll always be the singular Effie, but Jennifer Holliday was way too old to star in this film version. (I've seen her sing it live and it's still powerful.) I thought Jennifer Hudson was a good choice for age and voice, but the rest of the film just felt flaccid to me -- and I'm not sure an extended version could save it to me.

Too bad Paramount chose not to give this type of love to The Untouchables for its 30th Anniversary.

She clearly doesn't look the age of Beyoncé or Anika. Hell, Jamie Foxx either. Get real.

Great to see lossless audio for this musical.

Will mark time a while longer in hopeful anticipation that we see this (and other DreamWorks titles) coming to 4k UHD BD in the coming year or so. (Whispering in goddess' ears: 2007 Transformers . . . Road To Perdition . . .)

I have the blu ray. I got it in a 2 movie pack with the original Sparkle movie from the 70s. I also have the target 3 disc DVD. I will be getting this but it better not be a let down

(This release broaches the unfortunate possibility that Par may eventually only release the theatrical cut on UHD BD.)

I already own 2 versions. Im not sure this needs 20 more minutes.
More Eddie Murphy would be a big plus.

At least "The Untouchables" got to keep its bonus features.

I don't understand why they're excluding the original bonus features. They should've at least tacked them in as a DVD.

I think it remains to be seen how much of what's billed as "Extended Musical Numbers" from disc one of the 2-disc "Showstopper Edition" is part of this director's cut. But as for the second disc of content, I'm not interested in material that was presented on BD 10+ years ago being presented on DVD now. Even if "Building the Dream" was shot SD (?), it's just typical Par laziness that that's not getting ported forward onto a second BD in this set now.

As long as the extended version of "One Night Only" is included, then I'll bite for $13.
