Really Loony Tunes shorts haven't aired on TV in years? Last edited by Bandit Tajomaru; 08-19-2017 at 12:46 AM. |

I think we've seen the canary in the cold mine for physical media, sad to say. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Warners go the streaming route for their classic shorts sometime in the future. |

I listened to Stu's Show; the cartoons are new transfers off of archival prints (not the original negs, like the Golden Collections). They're not the analog tape masters from the Nickelodeon days.
Quote:
That'd be a shame if true. I know budgets are tight, but 1080p transfers would be future-proofed for a while and could be used again elsewhere. |

It's certainly late in the game for starting all over again. They'd get more mileage at this point out of doing GC 7+ and sticking to new-to-DVD or Blu-ray shorts. I can't imagine the sob story that would actually convince someone that they're capable of following through on any kind of complete line of releases at this point, given that they've aborted twice (thrice if you count Golden Age of LT but WB/WHV can't be blamed for LD going under).

Theatrical cartoons were typically one reel (6-10 minutes). So let's say they're 8 minutes each. 20 cartoons x 8 minutes is 2 hours and 40 minutes. That's an average video bitrate of 6550 kbps on a dual-layer DVD. That's perfectly acceptable for black and white cartoons.

I already own a good 30-40% of these cartoons on DVD/Blu Ray but I still preordered because these cartoon releases need to keep happening.
Btw I'm sure it was mentioned before but if you order directly from the WB Shop early the discs will be factory pressed rather than DVD-r. |

This is about the DVD's "factory-pressed DVD type" & "DVD-R type" subject.

I just noticed that WB Shop has dropped the price on "Porky Pig 101" from $47.99 to $35.99. Does anyone know if they offer pre-order price guarantees like Amazon? Thanks!

Just ordered. I'm curious if it will still be a pressed copy at this point. The order page states "MOD", but perhaps it has from the beginning just so they don't have to change the listing based on supply levels?

This is written before the release day of Warner Archive’s DVD “Porky Pig 101”.
People of the world, If you want more uncut & uncensored classic cartoons (WB’s Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies, Tom & Jerry (the cat & mouse, not the other Tom & Jerry), MGM Cartoons – especially Tex Avery’s, Famous Studios’ Popeye color cartoons, Columbia’s Fox & Crow, etc) on Blu-ray (& DVD) via “Warner Archive” & Turner’s “TCM Vault Collection”, Keep pre-ordering Warner Archive’s “Porky Pig 101” DVDs, & keep ordering them on the release day & the days after it! Keep buying Warner Archive’s “Porky Pig 101” DVDs as best as you can! |
