Hmm, where is this thread?

My research shows the following are still not available on blu-ray.

Wuthering Heights
Duck Soup
A Night at the Opera
Swing Time
A Place in the Sun
Bringing Up Baby

I'd love to be wrong!

Very excited about this! One of the last "DVD hold-outs" in my collection! I was always amazed that this particular classic -- with all its star-power -- wasn't on blu-ray yet.

Now I just need blu for KNIFE IN THE WATER, I AM CUBA, UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING, TENDER MERCIES, and ALMOST FAMOUS (original theatrical cut)... all of which would make fantastic Criterion titles.

Can't wait to get PHILADELPHIA STORY; day one!

Duck Soup is in the Marx Bros Silver Screen Collection box.

I suspect Criterion have snapped up many of the pre 50s titles that WAC had access too. Here is to more Warner/MGM/RKO coming from Criterion soon.

The Philadelphia Story is a top notch choice.

Not looking like they will, unless the listing is updated.

Combining your 2nd WB disc with the Criterion will probably be the way to go.

About time... Was wondering if we would ever see this. Now I'm hoping to see Arsenic and Old Lace. Also would like to see The Awful Truth and Bringing up Baby

This and Cohen's The Old Dark House really is making my year.

The Old Dark House and Arsenic and Old Lace make for a perfect Halloween double-bill

Looking forward to this one.

Cover is very lackluster for such a great film, IMO.

True. I guess I need to keep the 2nd disc of the 2-disc WB DVD for extras, as it contains 2 major documentaries that are missing in the upcoming Criterion Blu-ray. I rewatched the DVD last night & realized the discrepancies in extras.

Is Hepburn treated better in this than she is in WOMAN OF THE YEAR?

I just watched that recently and the end of the movie is particularly sadistic in the way they treat her character. My heart sank when she wins woman of the year while Tracy just sits there showing no interest in her or her accomplishment. The final set piece in the kitchen was incredibly cruel and horrifying.

WOMAN OF THE YEAR is VERTIGO without the self awareness that it's demolishing the identity of the woman.

Quite a bit better, yes. It really is odd just how dark some of the Tracy/Hepburn pairings get. I mean, I get that films need to be viewed in the context of their times but even with that in mind, they really do get uncomfortable at times.

This? No worries. It's very cleverly written, the tone is light and fun (without being frivolous) and everybody involved comes off equally noble and equally flawed.

No, not really, IMO. More than a minor streak of misogyny running through both of these films. Which is why, in spite of several virtues, I can never bring myself to enjoy them.

I'm a HUGE fan of Bringing Up Baby, though!

yeah, what a bummer, those were great little documentaries too.

Not many happy endings on KH’s films even later on her brilliant 4 Oscars career: disappointingly lonely in Venice on Summertime, mad as a hatter on Suddenly Last Summer, exiled on Lion in Winter, etc…
Hopefully they will release Summertime and Bringing up Baby soon.
Kate the great.

This was written for her, as a way to successfully sell her to audiences who were starting to dislike her. So at the beginning of the movie, she needs to be knocked down a few pegs, by the men in her life. Audiences liked that, so the Tracy movies go way further with it (supposedly reflecting real life, where Hepburn became incredibly deferential to Tracy).
