My copy shipped yesterday, should be here on Friday -- can't wait to check it out!
Looks promising from the AVS review (and being a sony title!). There's something wrong though when a 4K review includes a trailer in 240p.. with letterboxing around all sides ![]() |

Never was a *huge* fan of the movie (I thought Evan Rachel Wood was miscast in this movie--and for reference, I like her in Westworld), but I am a HUGE fan of The Beatles, so I will be picking this up. I'm actually excited to see how this translates to 4K with HDR.

Just got this in today and had a chance to do a few direct A-B comparisons on the OLED (65c6p) and have to say I’m a bit mixed.
I’m mostly interested to see others’ thoughts on it to either find out if they see the same or if it might be a calibration issue on my end. I’m not sure if it’s just my settings but the UHD seemed to be much more dim. The daylight scenes on the Blu Ray looked to be much more overcast and a bit warmer on the UHD with a much dimmer picture. I even turned off HDR on the player so that I could do an A-B comparison with the UHD and the Blu Ray on the exact same setting image setting (Expert dark room) but still the UHD seemed noticeably more dim. To make sure it wasn’t just the Oppo, I threw it into the Xbox One X and had the exact same result. This is using all HDR options - I know the game mode sims the picture so I tested everything else (game mode made it even dimmer than it was) I’d like to get some more confirmation from others on this to see if they’re seeing the same thing |

Just watched my Blu Ray copy and I love this movie as much as when I saw it in theaters.
Undecided if I'll get it on 4k though. I'm satisfied with the Blu version so it would need some substantial upgrade to justify $30 new. |

Ended up watching it last night on 4K and again it seemed incredibly dark. I had to actually turn on Dynamic Contast (medium) for the first time and I usually have it off.
I do wonder if it’s just me (since the AVSForum review didn’t mention it) or if it’s the encode. The other issue was the noise. There’s a prettt noticeable image noise throughout. I don’t think it’s grain since it’s very small and noticeable throughout (and oddly enough, probably more in the day shots than night shots) and has an almost “rainbow” (RGB) aspect to it which made it a bit more distracting. There is a noticeable upgrade over the Blu Ray but I’m still very mixed on it and trying to tell if it’s just my setup or if it is a flawed release. |

Probably the dimmest daylight looking movie I've watched so far.
This isn't an actual image (just a photoshop to recreate what it looked like) but the top if the Blu-Ray, the bottom is the 4K on the OLED C6P.. I tried every setting I had, maxed out contrast (100), brightness as 51 (any higher and black turns to grey), OLED at 100.. HDR Bright, HDR vivid looked the same.. The only way I was able to get a similar image to the Blu-Ray was with the Dynamic Contrast set to Medium (I usually have it Off) ![]() But again, it might just be me as the only other review I saw (AVSForum) didn't mention anything about it.. I've got about 100 other UHDs and this was the only one besides maybe SuicideSquad that seemed way too dim. |

Wow, this came out of left field for me. I will wait to see if this darkness if a wide-spread issue or not, but if I do decide to pick it up, it will NOT be at Bullmoose due to their Nolan Collection fiasco.

my copies coming today... I'll spot check it later and post thoughts...
I really hope it's not dark as mentioned... I only double dipped on this one to see a spectacular and vibrant picture.... My TV is a Samsung 65' SUHD set, not an OLED so we'll see that happens.... |

Thanks!!
Can you also report on whether you have dynamic contrast (or the Samsung equivalent) turned on? I can turn it up high and the picture looks fine.. but off it looks very, very dim. I’m used to some dark shots in movies being dim, but this ones a bit odd since they seem to be bright shots just heavily dimmed down. |

Thought it looked great, very clearly actual 4K resolution, though some shots are clearly a lower res video, but that seems to go back to the source). I noticed one shot coming out of the Strawberry fields number where the resolution appeared to drop significantly and had what looks like interlaced video artifacts - the shot that fades into a washing machine washing clothes) which is exactly how I remember it liking in the theater. (I saw this film nearly 10 times in the theater. It's one of my all time favorites.) When compared to the blu-ray it did appear slightly darker in some sections but I think this has more to do with how my Samsung UHD handles the HDR when paired with my OLED.
The Atmos audio is top notch. They use the overheads quite often and it is quite noticeable. Last edited by that1guystudios; 01-11-2018 at 02:19 AM. |

I just checked out my copy. It looks great. Authentic film grain, nice depth and deep colors.
As for it being dim, it's no dimmer than several other titles that are mastered with low nits. I have a tone mapping setup for movies like this and everything looks perfect. |

okay, so I popped it in and checked out numerous sequences from the "I Want To Hold Your Hand" scene to "I Am the Walrus" to "Hey Jude"... the picture quality is quite stellar... extremely clear with excellent color and the brightness level seemed good. Interesting to note that the "Hold Your Hand" sequence (shown in the screen shots above) seemed to be the only time where I thought it was possibly dim (would I have even noticed it without reading about it? I can't really say...) I have my dynamic contract set to "high" and I checked the scene with medium as well and saw minimal difference. I have my picture settings to standard, not the dynamic level which tends to create a more vibrant (but overdone) picture. As someone mentioned, there is some grain/noise throughout the movie but again, it's minimal and not anything that bothered me.... Overall is looks like a nice 4k upgrade ![]() |

Off the top of my head...
Nearly every musical number builds and adds overhead support as it goes along. The songs "I want you/She's So heavy" and "Strawberry Fields" are particularly active with the overheads. (A helicopter flies around and overhead right before the guys carry the Statue of Liberty.) Bass is strong and the track is very clear for dialog. I noticed several sound effects that were more dimensional and directional throughout. The bowling scene opens with some neat rear channel effects, and the crashing waves of the "heater skelter" opening features several overhead wave crash effects. |

I think my favorite scores (just to listen to/watch, not specifically regarding the 4k presentation) are
I've just seen a face Happiness is a warm gun Let it be Because While my guitar gently weeps I'm not really a cryer in movies, however the ATU version of let it be gets me every time. I really really like this movie, and have since it came out in 2007. Generally underrated IMO. |
