I can honestly say this is my ALL-TIME favorite Werewolf movie. I saw this when I was a kid and by having Coey Haim as the main character really connected with me. It also scared the crap out of me....but in a FUN way. Great story, well made, this is a FANTASTIC film, and I'm SUPER excited to FINALLY have this available on bluray.

I still remember this coming out in the Fall of 1985 around the same time as Re-animator, Remo Williams, Jagged Edge and To Live And Die In L.A. Although I always felt it paled by comparison to such 80's lycanthrope classics as The Howling and American Werewolf In London, it had a scrappy charm. Before he unfortunately became the punchline to a joke, people seem to forget Gary Busey was a pretty damn good actor and this features one of his more spirited performances. Busey is talented and sensitive enough to show the melancholic side of the failed, alcoholic uncle who always tries to stay funny and upbeat for his nephew. If this film had been a straight drama centering on that relationship, Busey would have been more than up to the task.
Stephen King always had a way with a funny/crude line, and his "What's the matter, you gonna make lemonade in your pants?" has stuck with me through the years... |

I agree that this film is way different in comparison to other werewolf movies like American Werewolf in London, or The Howling....but this one has such a charm to it, and feels more like a Family Werewolf film, even though it has some R rated elements to it.

Not Paramount but Studio Canal, who owns Dino DeLaurentiis' catalog. He produced the films and retained distribution of Orca and Silver Bullet outside the US (plus King Kong, Three Days of the Condor etc among others).

Umbrella's encoding is junk, so I'll wait on reviews for this one.

Umbrella have said that their release is a new 2K scan from the original negative.
I've got the German release which whilst looking pretty damn good, doesn't really look like a new 2K scan. Maybe they are using different scans but I doubt it with them being released so close to each other. |

OK, so I see this is being released by an Australian company, but dang, so many American's don't come in here to see what's going on in Australia.
I guess several American fans of this film are going to miss this announcement because the admins moved my thread in here and blended it in with this one. (sigh) OK, I wont argue with their decision. They ARE the rule makers, and I will respect that. Darn it. ![]() Last edited by OneWayFilms; 12-18-2017 at 04:18 AM. |
