Spielberg is definitely going to release more of his movies on Blu-ray. Lucas, who knows. I think he was waiting to see which format was going to win out. Now that it's obvious which side will win, there's no excuse for the two Star Wars trilogies to not see the light of day on Blu-ray. Except if Lucas is really making that definitive version of the trilogies.

As much as I want the original Star Wars trilogy to be released on Blu-ray, I want the Indiana Jones quadilogy (including the upcoming 4th installment), Jaws, War of the World, Artificial Intelligence, Jurassic Park I, Saving Private Ryan and Duel released on Blu even more.

Lucas might be waiting for the eventual release of StarWars in 3D at IMax. The Blu Ray set might help promote the movies. Although I thought that StarWars would start being shown at IMax this year due to StarWars 30th anniversary.
As for Steven Speilberg's Jurassic Park 1-3, he might be waiting till Jurassic Park 4 is released (which he is working on now). This would make sense since the first two Jurassic Parks didn't come to dvd until Jurassic Park III came out. After all three movies were available in a box set and eventually individually. |

It's not up to Paramount when the Indiana Jones trilogy gets released as they're all Spielberg directed flicks, so it is solely up to him when they'll get the HD treatment.

I thought the reason Lucas waited so long for the original trilogy on DVD was because he wanted the prequels to be finished first, and he was intending to do that editing he did for the special editions first.
The originals were released on VHS in Widescreen around the time of the first prequel, and while they were high quality (especially for VHS) they weren't DVD quality. Once they were finished with his special edition changes (and re-shown in theaters) they were finally ported to DVD after they got remastered for the SE's. The unaltered original versions of the films didn't have the same dolby surround the VHS set did when they were released on standard DVD, and their lack of care was evident to anyone who bought them. I kind of recall it being an afterthought because the fans demanded them. I don't think we're going to have to wait as long for Blu Ray, unless Lucas is planning to add more material into the movies. Lord knows he can't leave them alone as they are. 2 & 3 would look stunning on Blu - both were filmed in HD to begin with, and they look great on standard as is. Hopefully the process the originals went through (at least the SE versions) were cleaned up enough that they would look incredible as well. If they're showing too much of their age (in poor quality, not hackneyed acting), I think Lucas would hold them back until those corrections are made. That's the only real reason I can think of as to why he would. It would be a huge title for Fox, would move a lot of blu ray players, and would certainly get people thinking about the live-action TV series set to air in '09. If I had to guess, we'll see them around Christmas '08, Christmas '09 at the latest. ~Camper |

Lucasfilm hasn't got anything other than Star Wars and Indiana Jones worth milking, so its a sure thing we'll get all 6 SW films in one box before things go beyond standard dvd. |

I think Lucas will be more willing to release SW to Blu-ray than he was to DVD. Why? Cause he wanted to skip DVD altogether and just release to Blu-ray. But people demanded that he release them to DVD, and so FINALLY he got around to it.
However, now that Blu-ray is out and has the support it needs, I think he may start working on it. However, I do not think we will hear ANY news on a SW release until 2009. Likewise, Spielberg will be unable to release very much since most his films are at Universal, at least until Uni gives in. It could be that we will indeed see a Spielberg film or 2 by the end of the year, but that depends on how fast Universal decides to officially go neutral. |
