Same here. No Dolby Vision, no AMC, no Titanic. Bummer. Would love to see this on the big screen again...

What? Is this re-release to help fund Cameron's new Avatar sequels or something?

It's the film's 20th Anniversary.

How do they even do HFR for a film shot on 35mm at 24fps? I guess they can do one of those motion interpolation techniques, but that screams like it will look unnatural and not at all true to its filmic roots (one of the nice things about Titanic in Dolby Cinema 3D is its film roots were still apparent, unlike T2’s 3D Conversion).

I'm wondering this, too. How can one make extra frames out of nothing?

I remember working at Sony Lincoln Square when Titanic came out. The electricity around this movie was something else. The consistent crowds that came night after night for months. It took over our Imax screen and since we "hosted" those screenings by giving an introduction before each screening, we started to ask the audience to raise their hands if it was the first time seeing it. The number of hands that went up gradually dropped as most of the audience were repeat viewers. I watched it probably a dozen times myself.

The music, the visuals, the charismatic leads. It was such a great time at the cinema. I haven't watched it through since the 3D blu-ray came out, so I think this is the perfect time to see it again.

I think I end up watching this movie once a year, but I don't think I've seen it this year yet.

I'm still holding out hope for an eventual extended release of this movie. I know it is a long shot, but there are certain scenes I specifically remember from the theatrical release that were cut from the home release.

There were scenes from the theatrical that are not in the home video versions?

May I ask what you were smoking when you saw the movie in the theater?

Has the list of participating theaters been finalized, and if so does anyone have it?

I'm not sure if it's a finalized list but here's one that breaks down the Dolby Cinema 2D and 3D engagements. Maybe Dolby did some upgrades (from the press release there are now some twenty Dolby Cinema systems that can showcase 3D movies) but I know Tysons DC screen has never been a 3D system and the employee i talked with last Thursday night said it wasn't - so I have no idea what to believe

Seeing this on November 30th and will report back. This film has always been one of my favorites (saw the 3D reissue twice) so I'm always down to see it in a theater again.

Just saw Justice league in Dolby Cinema this past weekend, they showed a Dolby Vision trailer for the Titanic re-release and holy crap did it look beautiful. One of my GF's favorite movies so she started freaking out and said I am buying tickets immediately.

I didn't even look when they showed it, I want the experience to be as fresh as possible when seeing it.

Because the film hasn't made enough:

'Titanic’: Remastered Version Set For Theatrical Release In Time For Valentine’s Day 2023

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: To celebrate the 25th anniversary of James Cameron’s Titanic, the multiple Oscar winner and box office phenomenon has been set for a fresh theatrical release just in time for Valentine’s Day next year. A remastered version will be available in cinemas in 3D 4K HDR and high-frame rate with Disney releasing internationally beginning February 10, 2023, Deadline has confirmed. Paramount has domestic rights and is expected to also set its date in the coming days.

Cameron’s longtime producing partner and COO of Lightstorm Entertainment Jon Landau, fresh off a 36-hour plane journey from New Zealand, teased news of the Titanic rerelease at Disney’s CineEurope presentation in Barcelona today. There he showed off a 3D look at the remastered version.

The epic that made mega-stars out of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio originally sailed into domestic movie theaters in December 1997, and rolled out over several months internationally. It went on to win 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Original Song and more.

A 3D version then came out in 2012. In total, Titanic is the No. 3 movie ever at the global box office with $2.2B. Of that, $659.4M is from North America and $1.542B from overseas. Cameron’s Avatar is the top movie of all time worldwide.

The Titanic news follows Disney’s announcement at CinemaCon in April that Cameron’s original Avatar would get a remastered rerelease on September 23, ahead of the debut of the first sequel, Avatar: The Way Of Water. That film begins offshore rollout on December 14 and hits North America on December 16.
