I'll just be getting the standard 4K release. Normally I go for SteelBooks but for something like Star Wars, I'd rather have it all be uniform.. and I don't have any other Star Wars Steels lol.

I saw it on the midnight opening!! It was so worth taking a day off!! I saw it again today in 3D. It really is better in 3D. Though there aren't as many 3D sessions as I was expecting. It seems that 3D is not very popular here. Shame as I love seeing movies in 3D.

Eh, this was only "okay" for me. The humor mostly fell flat (some was, dare I say, Lucas-esque) and a certain character's Flying Nun impersonation had me guffawing at a moment that was supposed to be serious. Luke's big moment was great and the
[Show spoiler]hyperdrive kamikaze
was a showstopper, but I think this will be the first Star Wars movie I'll wait for the home release before revisiting a second time.

Really? I mean, really? Probably one of the best Star Wars scenes of all time, and easily my favorite scene from this film. Not sure what you were looking at while the scene was playing.

Same.

I get that there might be parts that certain people don't like, but my goodness. The ravenous and extreme language some people are using to voice that opinion is exhausting.

It's just the way we are now days with everything from politics to movies to just everything. Why say, "Eh, that part was just okay" when instead you can blare out that "Disney and Lucasfilm royally screwed the pooch on this one, how they could they have been so effing dumb and stupid and blah blah blah!!!"

My advice is if you liked that part, decide here and now that you will continue to like it and think it's cool despite the best efforts of the basement-dwelling internet buffoons to convince you that you need to hate it. They hate everything. They despise everything. And they're not happy until they can convince everyone else that somehow their hate makes them more enlightened.

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is the first newer film of the franchise that does not seem like a mere nostalgia trip, and it is the first one since 1980 that has surprised me. There are several nods to the original trilogy, but this film subverts that mythology and turns it upside down without betraying the core essence that made those older movies great. This is the cinematic equivalent of burning an agricultural field to the ground so that it will grow better crops next time. My optimism about the future of the Star Wars movies at the hands of Disney has never been greater, and, to borrow one of its most iconic quotes, I feel that this movie may truly have the sparks that will light a fire.

I probably speak for several other Star Wars fans when I say that I often wondered in the past what made the Empire “bad” and the Rebellion “good.” Last year's standalone film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, marvelously introduced complexities into the fold to show us that the good guys do not always behave in decent ways. As such, my favorite aspect of The Last Jedi is that, of all of the films in the series, it makes the most insightful observations about the genuine nature of goodness, about the importance of selflessness over arrogance, and about the precedence that saving others takes over reckless heroism.

The Last Jedi has some of the most jaw-dropping action scenes of the entire series to date. The Star Wars movies have always been indebted to the Japanese samurai films that were directed by Akira Kurosawa and to the American westerns that were directed by the likes of John Ford, but this latest entry easily tops its recent predecessors in terms of incorporating the grandiose visual styles of the battle scenes and showdowns from those classics. One fight sequence that takes place against a red background is a miracle of modern cinematography, and it gives us what is perhaps the coolest light saber kill scene in Star Wars history. You will know exactly which moment I am talking about when you see it.

This film rightly places the focus on younger characters. Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) are now blessed with a script that allows them to stand on their own feet and command our undivided attention. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Leia (Carrie Fisher), and other familiar faces, however, are given plenty of moments to shine, and one particular moment of dialogue will bring tears to the eyes of anyone who grew up watching them.

If I had to make one criticism, then I would say that some of the attempts at humor come across as forced, and that the film often tries too hard to shake off the gravitas of certain scenes by dismissing it in slapstick style. While I love that this movie does not take itself or the Star Wars mythology too seriously, it sometimes veers a little too closely to self-parody. As I'm fond of saying in my reviews, however, this is a minor grievance.

The Last Jedi is the longest movie of the Star Wars franchise, but its two hours and 32 minutes fly by at lightning pace. I'm still processing my thoughts about this film and about its place in the series, but I can say with conviction that it has my highest recommendation simply because it provides one of the most thrilling rollercoaster rides that you will see this year. From the beginning, the main goal of the Star Wars films has been to capture the spirit of the wildly fun matinee movies of decades past, and this one accomplishes that goal with flying colors.
YES! Totally agree! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and i cant wait to revisit this movie. Let the haters go enjoy the Prequels.

Really enjoyed The Last Jedi! So as a digibook fan, the Target book version is so far my first choice when I pick it up at add to my collection. If it comes with bonus content ON DISC, that'd be ideal.

I own the Target exclusive The Force Awakens digipak that included bonus content online (LAME). Never got around to double-dipping for the 3D set, which finally put that same bonus content on disc. But since that film came out, it's really sunk in with me how soulless the movie actually was. If the 3D set ever dropped to $15, which I realize is pretty unrealistic, I may consider the double-dip. But only then.

I felt stress watching this move lol that's how thrilling I found it, it was a never ending ride of emotions. So much so that when it was over, it felt too short! Definitely will be buying.

I assume the release date for this will be April 3rd since The Force Awakens and Rogue One both were released the first week of April.

I'm holding out until the inevitable double dip. If this follows the same release strategy as The Force Awakens, I would expect a 3D collectors edition come next December.

^ Good point. I don't own a 3D HDTV but I love me some bonus features. As I said above, TFA wasn't worth double-dipping imo. But ooh, The Last Jedi may be. Just depends on what those additional bonus features are...

I wouldn't count on a double dip this time. It's possible but Rogue One,they only did one release and made the 3D store exclusives to Target and Best Buy.

The 3d was almost non existent. The only reason to see it in 3d is if you want a smaller crowd. Plus I think most theaters play 3d movies on their smaller 1.85:1 screens so they're letterboxed.

I'll wait and see what the final artwork and packaging looks like in each one, to make my decision. I'm not worried about getting it on 4K, because I know that after Episode 9 there will be a new 4K complete set.
