That's partly what I mean, that stuff is what used to pass as 'special features' 20 years ago, it's so strange that Sony's menus have regressed so much.

It's not really what it looks like for me, I just want the kind of functionality that has become standard on HD media for the past decade or so. |

Non-issue for sure. I did notice that the Universal curved overlay logo shitstorms that we got fed on blu-ray has been replaced by simplistic button-like menus. And that is the only win we needed.
I concur that the LOOK of a menu is not the factor for me if I like it. It's how well it loads and if it's choppy -- Getting to the menu fast is best! Last edited by nick4Knight; 01-12-2018 at 11:18 AM. |

Only thing about that is I would like them to show off the sound format we are about to experience. Like what THX and others use to do and go straight to the movie
![]() ![]() That FBI Warning should be taking off, Smh. That is so stupid!!!!! ![]() |

The Force Awakens (really, all the Star Wars discs) and nuTrek are pretty good but overall I think Criterion (and even Warner, who gets a lot of grief for their basic menus) strike the better balance. Gimme a nice, simple background graphic, a nice, short audio clip and the menu options and I'm pretty happy. |

I find it much more obnoxious that we, as the main supporters of the home video business, have to suffer through all the federal copyright legality on the discs that we purchase. In addition to forced trailers or commercials, studio introductions, and other nonsense. When I pay $20 for something I want it to be able to go right into 'play movie'.

Not really, every other studio that's released UHDs has had no problems putting a standard BD-style menu on the there. No muss, no fuss. But Sony are trying to be edgy and do their own thing and their menus are crap. Crap crap crap. But the movies look so lovely. Lovely lovely lovely.

I used to like fancy menus, but now I see them as gimmicky. I just want to be able to jump straight to the movie. I don't mind footage being played on the screen so long as I can move fine on the menu without much if any input lag.

I agree with the annoyance about all the trailers and the interpol/copyright warnings. Thank goodness if that stuff is (seemingly?) gone from UHD. |

One of the things I really (and I mean really) hate are discs with menus showing clips from the movie playing in the background. If it's a movie I'm about to watch for the very first time then the last thing I want is being force fed parts of it while navigating the menus. ![]() |
