I love this show. I found the first 3 seasons for like 10 bucks each at walmart, then got the rest of the seasons from amazon. This show got me so interested in the ec comics that I have read almost every title they have from tales from the crypt to the weird science etc. I also love the movies including the classic tales from the crypt and vault of horror. A blu ray box set would be perfect. I would be interested in more extras and documentaries. For those interested, Walmart has a dvd boxset with the entire show for 69.99.

The original 1950's Tales from the Crypt EC comics were before my time, but I remember hearing older relatives rave about them. Back in the 200X's, I got some of the Hardcover reprint volumes out of my local library & was extremely impressed by the incredibly detailed artwork & extremely well written stories. Great stuff here. They definitely don't make comics like this anymore.
However, I never got into the TFTC series when it was originally out; IIRC, it was on cable & at the time I only had access to network TV. That being said, I've heard a lot about this over the years, so may check out the DVD's. Last edited by AnamorphicWidescreen; 07-13-2018 at 06:41 PM. |

Something odd has happened with my DVD of Tales from the Cryptkeepr. On my old DVD player, they played in 4:3 but on my BD player they are automatically cropped to 1.85:1, losing a lot of the picture. This doesn't happen with any of my other 4:3 DVDs, and I wonder if it's some sort of flag on the disc? Very odd.

Zoom 4x3 to 16x9 or Player creates 16x9 image by adding side bars to 4x3 image Go into players settings and change it so that player adds the side bars. |

Actually they can transmit any aspect ratio through HDMI as long as the connected monitor can accommodate it. I have never heard of any player not being able to display a true 4:3 image on a 16:9 TV via HDMI. All of mine can display 4:3 content without zooming options. I think you may be confusing zooming with the formatting settings on the player.

I'd agree but all my other 4:3 DVDs get the side bars. This is the only DVD where it's zoomed in instead.

DVD, BD, and 4K players all send 4:3 images via HDMI. They send any and all aspect ratios via HDMI. I watch variable aspect ratio content often with three different players.
Players will output the correct aspect ratio. The bars appear appear, or don't appear, based on the aspect ratio of the content and the type of display connected assuming the settings are correct, usually "16:9 auto", or something similar, is what you would use. The only time I have ever used the zoom feature is with ancient non-anamorhpic dvds that would produce the image inside of a "box." Judicious use of zooming can compensate for these dvd relics. The last time I had to zoom was watching my True Lies dvd and I will have to do the same with The Abyss until Jim Cameron can pull himself away from his Avatar obsession long enough to give us new remastered versions that he allegedly said we would have last year.

I watched TALES FROM THE CRYPT when it originally aired on HBO from 1989 till 1996 and still recall thinking director Peter (THE CHANGELING) Medak's "The New Arrival" with David Warner and Zelda Rubenstein was one of the creepier episodes...especially that ending.
