OUTSTANDING! I finally had some time to watch this with my family and it was AMAZING! Having read the Bible front to back several times in 20+ years I saw images and ideas in this film brought to life that I had only seen in my mind's eye. I have also learned a lot from this film that I can't wait to dive deeper on. A true faith builder and perfect viewing for this upcoming Easter season. Also, the 3D was AMAZING and is the way to see it if possible. Very proud to have this in my collection. I am hoping part 2 comes out soon. If the quality of this film is any indication, part 2 will be an instant purchase.

Genesis: Part 1- Paradise Lost (Blu-ray user review)

Genesis: Part 1 Paradise Lost on Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray 2D is a documentary movie. This movie is based on both scientific theories and newly discovered scientific facts that prove the Genesis account of creation is true. RED ONE cameras were used to make this movie in true 3D quality. This move is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association. According to the audio commentary, this low budget Christian movie had an estimated budget somewhere between $1.4-$2 million dollars. According to the Box Office sales, this movie only brought in slightly over $1.5 million dollars (link). If those numbers are correct then this means Genesis Part 1 Paradise Lost, was not profitable and lost money. Secular movies like Avatar can afford a $237 million dollar budget that generated almost $2.8 billion dollars at the box office. With this Genesis Part 1 Paradise Lost movie having a budget of around $2 million dollars, it is understandable that the computer graphics for this Genesis movie is not going to be as good when compared to many high budget secular movies (Still some of the scenes look fairly good). Genesis Part 1 Paradise Lost literally took 7 years of hard work to produce. Watching the extras, I learned that one individual spent 5 years of their life in front of a computer creating the Creation of the world from the pages of the first chapter of Genesis. In addition, several Ministries joined in to help with this video (SevenFold Films, Creation Today, Resurrection Pictures, Answers in Genesis, Living Waters, and also the Institute for Creation Research is briefly mentioned as helping with this movie. There are interviews with several PH.D scientists and other experts in this documentary movie that are mixed in with the computer graphics of the Creation week. This is also the very first Blu-ray disc where Ken Ham the founder of the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum is briefly interviewed a few times.

This Genesis documentary movie is based on the historical first book of the Torah (Old Testament) that several millions of people believe is literal history (Strict and accurate word for word oral tradition passed down over the generations from Adam and written down by Moses. In addition, Moses received the inspired revelation from God of what happen in the past.).

I ended up watching this Blu-ray twice (Three times if one counts the commentary track). In addition, I watched all the bonus features. This movie documentary has a massive amount of topics that are covered. This movie talks about two different worldviews, evolution by natural causes without God or the creation of the Universe by God. The movie talks about one of the consequences of believing in no God is that one becomes their own false god by doing what is right in their own eyes. Up until the early 1700’s most people believed in a young Universe created by God and judgment of the world by a worldwide flood. This movie shows evidence that the modern day belief in evolution and billions of years is a fairytale with no bases in reality. The fossil record shows humans have always been humans and apes have always been apes. In 1841 the word Dinosaur was invented, however ancient man in Bible times called Dinosaur’s Dragons. There is a massive amount of evidence that land and sea dragons lived with man before and after the worldwide flood. The Bible and many cultures have history of these Dinosaurs (dragons) living with humans. This movie documentary briefly mentions that Dinosaur and man topic. Dinosaurs are now most likely extinct with the different types of Dinosaurs dying out several hundreds years after getting off Noah’s Ark.

The belief in a Universe being trillions or billions of years old is a modern scientific theory that goes against the historical record. In modern time’s secular scientist have believed that the historical Genesis record was wrong, however with 21st Century genetics, the fossil record, and a massive amount of other scientific facts point to the evidence of a Universe that has been created by God.

This Genesis movie also mentions that the Universe was created around 6,000 years ago because of evidence with the spiral galaxies and evidence seen in the comets. Secular scientist need several trillions of years to explain how starlight can reach across the Universe if the speed of light was a constant speed. However, there are scientific theories that explain how the speed of light at the beginning of Creation around 6,000 years ago was much faster than today. In the secular world there are science fiction TV series like Stargate that shows how people can travel much faster than the speed of light (Even though these TV series are fictional, there are real scientist that believe wormholes and the ability to make a spaceship that travels 20 or 30 times faster than light might be possible one day. At the beginning of time the speed of light was much faster than it is today according to Scientist that believe in a young Universe).

There are some secular scientist that believe that there was a worldwide flood on Mars, however they refuse to believe in a worldwide flood on the plant called earth where 70% of the surface is covered by water. However there is a massive amount of evidence that the waters above and below the earth’s surface were used to cover 100% of the earth’s surface around 4,400 years ago. Now only 30% of the earth’s surface has useable land.

There are many topics covered in a 1 hour and 50 minute period of time (plus bonus features). This movie has a strong gospel message that Jesus died for the sins of the world and then rose again. The documentary section of this movie talks about much more than creation week. However, the computer generated Genesis computer model section of this movie only shows the entire creation week and one has to wait until Part 2 of Genesis Paradise Lost to be released to see the fall of the human race, worldwide flood, and other topics found in Genesis. The computer generated creation week looks awesome in this movie. At the end of the Creation week one gets to see a computer generated simulation of what a perfect world looks like. One sees a world in the Garden of Eden where God created the first man Adam and the first women called Eve. In a perfect world, Adam and Eve were clothed in the image of God (this is how people lived before the fall according to the historical record). Adam and Eve can be seen swimming underwater near a waterfall. Also in God’s paradise, humans, animals, sea creatures, and everything that movies on the face of the earth is a strict vegetarian (vegan). The movie shows creation in harmony with each other. Adam can be seen petting a very large dinosaur. The turtles are eating green vegetables, and a very large T-rex dinosaur is seen eating a huge piece of melon type fruit on a tree (much larger than a watermelon). There was no sickness or death for any of the humans and animals during God’s perfect Creation (sickness and death entered the world after man disobeyed God with the original sin). The movie ends with an angel of light entering the Garden of Eden next to what most likely will become the forbidden tree of knowledge of good and evil. There is suppose to be a Genesis Part 2 Paradise Lost coming out sometime in the future. It took 7 years to develop part 1, hopefully Part 2 will take less time.

Bible prophecy talks about one day in the future, God in the flesh (Jesus Christ), well one day return and restore his Creation to perfect harmony again where sickness and death will no longer occur.

Information about the 2 Blu-ray discs and 3 DVD discs

For those that pre-order this title from Creation Today one received 5 optical discs instead of 4 optical discs. The Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray 2D, and main DVD all have the exact same program and bonus features. The main DVD is included for those families that do not have Blu-ray players at all TV locations. The Blu-ray 3D disc uses 22.8GB of space on the single layer 25GB Blu-ray disc. The Blu-ray 2-D disc uses 16.4GB of space on the 25GB single layer Blu-ray disc. The DVD disc uses 6.20GB of space on the 8.5GB dual layer disc. Disc number 4 which is the DVD bonus content uses 2.73GB of space on the 4.7GB single layer DVD disc. Disc number 5 which is the DVD bonus panel uses 2.22GB of space on the single layer 4.7GB DVD disc.

Most Blu-ray 3D movies these days use a high bit rate MVC encode on a dual layer Blu-ray disc. For this movie the average MVC encode appeared to be around 22Mbps for some scenes which is a low bit rate for Blu-ray 3-D. In addition, the Blu-ray 3-D disc is not locked, so that most people will be able to play the disc on their standard 2-D display and old A/V receiver as long as they have a modern Blu-ray player that converts 3-D to 2-D. However, the Blu-ray 3-D disc does not have any subtitles. In addition, the audio for the bonus features on the Blu-ray 3D disc uses 2.0 Dolby Digital at 192kbps instead of LPCM (But the soundtrack for the main movie is the same 3 choices as the Blu-ray 2-D version, 2 soundtracks plus 1 commentary track). The Blu-ray 3-D disc menus are encoded with 5.1 Dolby Digital at 448kbps, however the menus for the Blu-ray 2-D disc only uses 2.0 Dolby Digital at 192kbps. In addition, for some reason both Blu-ray discs have no pop-up menus. In addition, the menus on all the Blu-ray and DVD discs use the MPEG-2 codec. The MPEG-2 codec does not support 3-D menus. The menus on the Blu-ray discs are the full 1920 x 1080P quality. The menus on the DVD discs are 704 x 480i quality instead of 720 x 480i quality (But all 3 DVD discs are the full 720 x 480i quality when playing the video).

To maintain the original screen ratio shown in theaters there is black bars on the top and bottom of the screen like there is suppose to be. Due to limitations in the Blu-ray format instead of seeing the full 1920 x 1080P image, most likely around 1920 x 817P is seen on the screen since the original cinematic ratio is maintained (estimated resolution lost only).

Video comments

These video comments are for the Blu-ray 2-D version of the movie since I do not own a 3-D display yet. I am a big fan of IMAX 3-D and 3-D in the home with a large selection of Blu-ray 3D movies that I have purchased over the last 8 years. I currently own a Blu-ray player and an A/V receiver that is capable of passing a 3-D signal. However, at this time, I am still using a 2008 Pioneer PRO-101FD reference 2-D plasma display that is 10 years old now. Originally, soon after the Blu-ray 3D format launched in 2010, I started researching high-end DLP projectors that display movies in true 3-D using triple flash technology. However when I was getting interested in purchasing a 3D projector in 2014 or 2015, I decided to wait off since I had a theory that the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format would launch in the year 2016 or around the year 2016. Various projects and others issues came up around 2016 and 2017 that prevented me from spending time researching high-end 4K projectors that also pass a 3-D signal (Also there has been technical issues with many lower priced first generation 4K Ultra HD consumer projectors not displaying the full resolution and not being able to display a 3D signal). Another negative for 3D fans is that 100% of all 3D flat panels are now out of production as of 2017 (Flat panel displays always had 3-D picture quality problems when compared to a low priced under $1,000 144Hz DLP 3-D projector). So to make a long story short in the year 2018 projectors are the only way to watch Blu-ray 3D now, but I have not gotten around to purchasing a projector yet. Many of those under $500 and under $1,000 DLP 3-D projectors are now out of production and have been replaced with several thousand dollar 2-D only projectors that are labeled 4K but cannot offer a true native 4K signal. Those looking for both a true native 4K projector and the 1080P 3-D feature can find a Sony projector starting at only $5,000. Sony projectors are a fraction of the price when compared to a high-end DLP projector.

2-D Video comments

I am surprised that only 16.4GB of space is used on a single layer Blu-ray disc that holds 25GB worth of data. The MPEG-4/AVC bit rate was around 12Mbps-14Mbps for many scenes. Sometimes peaking into the 16Mbps-19Mbps range. When many parts of the movie are around 12Mbps or 13Mbps it makes the image look soft. This is suppose to be from a RED ONE source and it could have used a higher bit rate encode. Many Christian movies these days use dual layer Blu-ray discs with MPEG4/AVC bit rates in the 20-30Mbps range. I never saw the MPEG-4/AVC bit rate make it to 20Mbps, it normally stayed way below 15Mbps. This release looks much better than the 480i DVD, but the Blu-ray quality could have been better if higher bit rates were used. This Blu-ray disc is encoded in 12 different subtitles and is region free.

Audio comments

For the main movie both the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray 2-D have the exact same audio quality. For some reason this 2018 release did not get a 5.1 PCM or 5.1 lossless audio soundtrack which is a disappointment. For a Blu-ray release, this title should have gotten a 5.1 PCM soundtrack to match the 5.1 PCM studio master. Overall the lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital 448kbps surround soundtrack had a fairly good surround sound mix. There was active subwoofer activity and active surround sound activity. For those that have a standard 2.0 stereo system or who are only using a flat panel with built in 2.0 stereo speakers, there is a hidden 2.0 LPCM stereo soundtrack that is bit for bit exactly the same as the stereo studio master. The problem is the 2.0 LPCM stereo master is not in the Blu-ray disc menu option, but instead must be manually selected in the audio selection screen in ones Blu-ray player to hear it. Hopefully Part 2 when its released might offer 5.1 PCM or 5.1 lossless audio.

Bonus Features

This Blu-ray boxset came with a Prayer Poem card and a colorful thank you informational card. The audio commentary track was very interesting to listen to while watching the movie (2.0 Dolby Digital 192kbps). While the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray 2D has the same exact bonus features, the bonus features on the Blu-ray 2-D disc has better audio quality since 2.0 LPCM is used versus lossy 2.0 Dolby Digital at 192kbps for the Blu-ray 3D disc. All the Blu-ray 2-D bonus features are encoded with MPEG-2 codec at 1080P quality and with 2.0 LPCM stereo at 1.536Mbps. Full Trailer (Darwin Trailer) lasts 2 minutes and 25 seconds. Audience Reviews Trailer lasts 1 minute and 7 seconds. Panel Discussion lasts 20 minutes and 47 seconds (contains Salvation Poem). In the Ministries Behind the Film section the following promotional videos are offered: Director’s New Projects (3 minutes and 56 seconds), Creation Today (2 minutes and 50 seconds), Resurrection Pictures (2 minutes and 12 seconds), Answers in Genesis (2 minutes and 48 seconds), and Living Waters (30 seconds).

Disc number 4 which is the DVD bonus content for some reason has 3 items that are exactly the same material that is found on the Blu-ray disc. Panel Discussion, Ministries Behind the Film, and Salvation Poem. The Making of Featurette lasts 32 minutes and 24 minutes, and rare for a 480i DVD, it contains a 2.0 stereo LPCM soundtrack. “Who Can Tell Me?” lasts 2 minutes and 48 seconds and rare for a 480i DVD, it contains a 2.0 stereo LPCM soundtrack. Disc number 5 which is the DVD bonus panel lasts 50 minutes and 16 seconds (2.0 Dolby Digital 192kbps). The DVD bonus panel starts playing as soon as one inserts the DVD, and stops playing after its finished (at first glance it would appear that there is no official DVD menu, but there is a hidden root menu that can be accessed. However, the hidden root menu does not work on this DVD disc when attempting to navigate the menu options, and it appears this DVD disc was rushed before it was finished).

Conclusion

Genesis Part 1 Paradise Lost on Blu-ray is an amazing Creation movie that took 7 years to make. While in the secular world this movie would be considered low budget, the information in this movie is very valuable. Modern science is showing evidence that the Genesis story for creation is true. This is also the first Creation movie on Blu-ray 3D. While the Blu-ray 2-D MPEG-4/AVC bit rate for this video is lower quality when compared to the average Blu-ray disc, it does offer a better picture quality when compared to the 480i DVD disc. It was disappointing that no 5.1 lossless audio is offered and instead lossy audio that is no better than the DVD soundtrack. There is a hidden 2.0 LPCM soundtrack on this Blu-ray disc that matches the LCPM 2.0 stereo master. The audio commentary track and other bonus features were enjoyable to watch. This Blu-ray disc is ideal for both Christians and non-Christians that are searching for the truth in both history and science regarding the creation of the Universe. Highly recommended for all those interested in learning more about Genesis.

I recently had the opportunity to spend two full days at the Creation Museum in Petersburg Kentucky and one full day at the Ark Encounter Theme Park in Williamstown Kentucky. Very enjoyable experiences at both parks.

While at the Creation Museum, I had the opportunity to try out their new state of the art 4D Special Effects theater. At the 4D theater they are currently showing a 22 minute video called “In Six Days” which contains scenes from the Genesis: Paradise Lost movie. The theater is using a 34,000 lumens 4K 3 chip DLP projector with high quality active 3D glasses. The 3D quality was very good. Of course, one can watch the entire Genesis: Paradise Lost movie at home on Blu-ray 3D if they have 3D equipment like a good quality 144Hz DLP projector. However, the big advantage of the 4D theater in Kentucky is that I experienced a shaking and rumbling chair. Something similar that some consumers experience with D-box chairs at home with the properly encoded movie. The 4D special effects theater has unique things like a strobe light and wind machines that really enhanced the experience of the 3D movie. Anyone traveling close to Kentucky should check out this new state of the art 4D special effects theater. I wish 4D would become a reality in people’s homes, but most people do not even have D-BOX enabled Blu-ray discs or equipment for the chair motion. After people get done adding 13.2 or 11.2 speakers for Dolby ATMOS, DTS X, or Auro 3D in the home, most people are not going to want to spend the money for water machines, air machines, and strobe lights. In addition, the movies for home would need to be encoded with the proper codes to activate water machines, air machines, and strobe lights. It would be neat watching a James Cameron movie or George Lucas movie that used some of these 4D effects. It makes the movie experience more enjoyable. However, for now 4D theaters appear to be limited to places like Disney World, the Creation Museum, and other special theme parks.

What a great review for a great film about the greatest subject of all times. I am glad this work exposes the flaws of the evolution theory and exalts God as the one and only Creator!

Ordered mine from Ebay for $29.99 + free shipping and got delivered yesterday. Look forward to watch this including the bonus features. It is refreshing to see a project that believes in the literal accounts of the Bible!
