I think the original point was about R rated 3D movies that are profitable, not just R rated 3D movies in general.

This is 2018. I don't think what was marketed before in 3D applies today.

Thats one thing i hated about Thor Ragnarok , is they made Thor a dumb fratboy , not the god of lightning.

Venom wasnt a laugh a minute character, he was a dark character , he was the opposite of spiderman.
God of thunder.

You may have hated it but it is easily the most popular Thor movie, and definitely one of the best Marvel efforts.

Oh, and it had amazing 3D

Default Venom (2019) 3D

So to my surprise I was downloading the ingestion letters at work last night and found out that Venom indeed will be in 3D. Looking forward to that this week.

I will post the ingestion letter here latter.

Why is this a surprise, it's been announced for 3D since the first trailer/poster (whereas other movies sometimes wait till later marketing to announce 3D).
The odd thing was at the time, we assumed it would be R and R rated 3D is rare now, but of course given that it's actually PG-13 makes perfect sense.

Sony released Spiderman Homecoming 3D in the US so I'm hoping they do the same here. I thought the early trailers looked pretty meh but the newer stuff they've put out looks pretty solid.

I'm cautiously looking forward to this one now. The action actually looks pretty good. Fingers crossed for good 3D.

Yeah, hopefully the movie is decent and entertaining. I think it'll be a good idea to go in allowing for some hard to believe moments with this Symbiote alien trying to work with its host played by Tom Hardy, like when Venom opens its jaws and I wonder where the character Eddie Brock's face disappears to.

Surprisingly, they managed to make this for 100$ million, which is lower for a big Hollywood film, but smart they kept the budget more in control.

The box office estimators are saying it'll make about $60 million opening weekend.

I'll see it in 3D (as long as it's not mild 3D) but I hope the show times are better than for recent 3D films in theaters.

Venom has been one of my most anticipated movies of 2018, along with Alita, Battle Angel.
I rather liked the trailers of Venom, it looks awesome!

Do i really need to answer this ? we all know how 3D in the US is doing and to be honest that was very little to NO advertisement about 3D.

Hopefully Venom 3D is an exciting/entertaining movie with worthwhile 3D. I think the creature design looks cool as with the comics, though it'll depend on the story, dialog and action to make it work, since it's an odd character combination the way Venom appears.

With Alita 3D, that's been delayed till February 19, 2019.

Sure, we know how 3D is doing in the US (just 17% of Ant-Man and the Wasp's opening weekend is distressing as that also had a decent number of 3D showtimes), but Venom has had a 3D tag on all major US marketing. As far as I know, the only films to be officially advertised for US 3D which didn't have that release were Deathly Hollows Pt 1, Fantastic Four, and Mockingjay Pt. 2 (the first two ran into production time problems, the last one was outright canceled and they decided to do 3D only internationally), and all of them dropped 3D from their later marketing.

I've enjoyed many 'stinkers' over the years. I'm more interested in what the 3D is like!

After seeing that this has IMAX 3D showings near me I'll probably be going to see it in that format. I've been trying to support more IMAX 3D showings whenever they're available so they know there's still people wanting to see it that way.
