![]() ![]() Yeah, I read the same thing when I was in art school. I also have the Bond graphic novel that Mike Grell did and I think he modeled his interpretation of Bond off an old Carmichael pic? Found it. Still, you can't say that Connery doesn't come closet to that iconic look. Although I don't think Fleming liked him very much? Been ages since I've read anything about the character. I honestly liked Lazenby and would have liked to seen more of him as Bond. While I didn't like him as a kid, I did enjoy him more as an adult. |

Goldeneye was great and Tomorrow Never Dies was pretty good. But Brosnan in general seemed to be trying too hard to be Connery and Moore at the same time, without doing his own thing. His movies venture into self-parody too much.

Yes. Every time me and my wife watch a Brosnan or Craig Bond film we always mention at some point how we liked Brosnan the best. Aside from Connery, he’s everything Bond was meant to be. Too bad he couldn’t do more films.
I hope they get back to Ian Fleming’s original vision for Bond after they’re done with Craig. The Craig films have been good but he’s never been Bond to me. I think they wanted him to be more like Jason Bourne but that’s not Bond. I’ve said this from the time they chose Craig, he still looks more like a Bond villain than Bond. That’s never changed. |

I'm inclined to agree. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of my favourite Bond movies.
I didn't mind Brosnan as Bond, although Die Another Day wasn't a good film in my view - not Brosnan's fault of course. Each of the Bond actors seemed to have their "poorer" films, for example Roger Moore was fine up until Octopussy, which for me is the worst film in the entire Bond franchise. |

Regardless of how the movies have stood the test of time, Brosnan was my gateway into the world of Bond. GoldenEye was my first Bond film, and one of the best action movie experiences of my youth. So much so, I wound up soaking in as much Bond music and movies as I could throughout my high-school years.
Of course, I gravitated towards each sequel with fanboy zeal and loved the whole lot of them. Tomorrow Never Dies is a solid action film--maybe flaky in its plotting, but it has so many great action setpieces it feels like a John Woo movie. The World Is Not Enough was my favorite for a while, if for no other reason than plot and characters--there is a mature story buried in there, but it's a shame the movie has a rather lackluster third act and Denise Richards. Die Another Day, I didn't catch until home video. Once I did, I was pleased with it all the same--it's so stupidly overblown, it elevates itself to top-tier guilty pleasure territory. Daniel Craig raised the bar and 2006's Casino Royale remains my favorite Bond film of the lot. It will be hard to top. There is a part of me that misses the brand of action cinema that Brosnan's films represented, but that doesn't mean I miss Brosnan's Bond specifically--just that I miss 90s action overall. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I feel that the 90s had a wealth of exciting and colorful cinema, and the action movie scene was consistently pleasing back then. Today, I don't get that same thrill. Maybe it's just time for a new Bond. How long has it been now--three years? Has there been any news? ![]() Last edited by Al_The_Strange; 01-25-2022 at 04:33 PM. |
