It's a marginal upgrade at least. It received AVC and a much higher bitrate on the included BD.

Since most UHD are better than the Blu-Ray version, shouldn't we do a list of UHD that are worse than the Blu-Ray? (Pretty sure i saw a thread somewhere)

This one?

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ighlight=worse

As another member stated, this list will be the vast majority, where focusing on the very small list of titles that look "worst" than the UHD's. I apologize if I am missing the benefit or purpose of the thread.

I would suggest that you make definitions clear or divide them in to different categories, because now you have so many possibilities when a movie makes the list:
-the UHD has better PQ than the old BD
-the new BD has better PQ than the old BD
-the UHD and the new BD have better PQ than the old BD
-the UHD has better AQ than the old BD
-the new BD has better AQ than the old BD
-the UHD and the new BD have better AQ than the old BD
-the UHD has better PQ and AQ than the old BD
-the new BD has better PQ and AQ than the old BD
-the UHD and the new BD have better PQ and AQ than the old BD
-the UHD has additional footage which the old BD lacks
-the new BD has additional footage which the old BD lacks
-the UHD and the new BD have additional footage which the old BD lacks
etc...
These are the ones that interest me anyway!!!

Also, UHD/BD combos where the UHD has the new master, but it is not present on the BD.

Well that's not what I PMed you.......... but you are the boss

IMHO pretty much ALL UHDs will look and sound better than the existing BD to varying degrees so no real point listing that.

All I really wanted to know was if the BD that comes with a UHD is a BETTER/NEW remaster than the previously released BD.........like UNFORGIVEN is.

By my rules the List wouldn't have included "A Few Good Men" and most others as they simply include the OLD BD.

eg.....Groundhog Day UHD includes the 2009 15th Anniversary Edition BD which is EASILY beaten by the Japanese 2014 "mastered in 4K" BD (which was thankfully released as a standalone in 2014!!!!)

The MAIN problem with most UHD reviewers IMHO is that they rave on about the UHD's quality but not a single word about whether the accompanying BD is just the regular previously released version or a NEW improved remaster that may never become available as a standalone.............like UNFORGIVEN seems to be so far.

I personally am not into 4K (a friend is) but AM into having the BEST AVAILABLE BD of desired Titles even if that means begrudgingly having to buy the UHD set.

I guess I am in the minority now so I understand if everyone else prefers this List stays with the current parameters.

Understood sir. Either way it's going to be a rather short list.

Especially since the 2015 BD looks better than both discs in the UHD set.

But looking at the list alone, how is one supposed to know which is which? Perhaps an * to indicate the regular BD has been remastered might be helpful.

IMHO Blade Runner should NOT be on the List as the accompanying BD is only the 2007 release.....
NOT the 2012 30th Anniversary improved release as listed by HD Goofnut here.....

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=232493

From the UHD's Review....

"Unfortunately, the studio has decided not to accompany the 4K disc with a remastered 1080p Blu-ray, as it did with its recent UHD release of Unforgiven. The 2007 Blu-ray is a low-bitrate VC-1 encode prepared for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, and its age is showing."

and this..........

"By failing to provide a remastered standard disc, Warner has missed an opportunity to sell this set to fans who haven't yet upgraded their equipment to 4K but would be willing to "future proof" their purchase for the sake of an improved 1080p experience."

PART OF MY REASONING FOR WANTING THIS LIST!!!!!!!!

Right, since it's available as a standalone release as well there's no reason for it to be in the list.

THE MATRIX!!!!!!!!!!

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=23011#comments

Now THIS is what I'm talkin' about!!!!!

Of course when the time comes it will still need to be confirmed that the new 4K remaster used for the BD is an actual improvement over the existing release but surely you would expect so..........especially considering it will also feature ATMOS audio!!!
And we also don't know if they ever plan to release the new remastered BD as a standalone yet either.

But don't you just LOVE that bolded asterisk bit at the bottom stating............

*The Blu-ray release will also be sourced from the brand new 4K remaster of the film.

Sigh.............If only everyone doing that.........actually STATED it!!!!

See Post # 537 here for more info........https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...301937&page=27

Guys..........and HDGoofnut!!!!

Found a Site that reviews UHD's properly!!

Reviewer goes into detail about quality of Master used and also mentions accompanying BD's details including whether it's a new remaster or not!!!

Bliss!!!............http://www.thedigitalbits.com/catego...-blu-ray/page5
