amazon's price is good right now. I'm dying to buy it but have reached my limit for this week lol

I'd almost bet the image quality will be tighter than the DVD and slight uptick in detail. If it looks greater than that I'll be surprised.

Would like to see some screen compares on caps a holic.

This is a solid month from Olive. I grabbed Mermaids, Joe and Hope and Glory today.

I've never seen Mermaids, but with a cast like that... I'm very much looking forward to it.

We get the trailer, but that's it. Wish the Shoop Shoop music video was on there like it was on the laserdisc, but I'm glad to get this on BD. Looks really good to me.

This looked pretty good to me, as well.

I've owned the film on both VHS and DVD, and this is the first time that I've ever been able to see a noticeable difference in the two sides of Rachel's face when she's doing the at-home makeup consultation.

Am I making this up or was there a scene in this film where Cher and Winona sang "Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This" and danced to it? Am I making that up? Was that another movie?

I didn't think this transfer was particularly good at all. Blotchy compression issues plus lots of speckles from an older MGM master. It's still OK but certainly not anything more than a 3/5.

Well, this release really falls into the "beggars can't be choosers" category because we are fortunate that this movie has a blu ray release at all. It's unfortunate that the old MGM master isn't in a better shape, but I doubt that anyone will be spending any money on any kind of restoration of this movie any time soon.

I agree with most others... it is finally on BLU... the image quality isn't as good as you'd want it to be. I felt like the transfer with the specks and flecks don't bother me much, but there are times when the image takes on more of a video noise look but a fresh HD scan would have been nice for the film.

All that said Mermaids looks more like "film" then the new 4K of Grease haha

It is a shame it took forever for Mermaids to come out on BLU. The cast is just flawless. Cher looks great, Winona was at the top of her game, Christina Ricci steals it and Bob Hoskins is awesome. and then throw in Jake Ryan! Who Doesn't HEART Jake Ryan!

Aside from all the acting the look of the film, production design, the score, clothing just really pull you into the time period.

no regrets with the purchase.. just wish it could have rec'd a better transfer and some interviews or even the cast reuniting. I believe Cher, Winona and Christina got along so well during filming. I recall hearing and I could be wrong that Richard Benjamin and Cher didn't get along well... but you'd never know it. The performances are great.

His acting is pretty wooden/staid, but he's certainly very easy on the eyes.

Its ok - i would rate it picture 3 out of 5 - upgrade from the dvd but it could have done with a newer scan - sadly its region locked (there is a german version which i might buy if its cheaper) if you like the film as much as i did then its worth buying - just dont expect a wow transfer
